210 <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox asked if Itwaco will:participate in the pairing, and Ms. Richards replied <br />that the agreement between Ilwaco and Long Beach, which is a larger (population of <br />1,400), more thriving community, is that Long Beach will take the lead in establishing <br />the formal relationship. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox asked is Ms. Richards has approached Albemarle County about being <br />involved, adding that their involvement would make the concept more attractive to him. <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said she has informally spoken to a few members of the Board of <br />Supervisors, but has not formally approached them. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox said he would tike t:o explore the idea with Albemarle County. Mr. Cox <br />said 'he has no real sense of what Long Beach looks tike and-referred to disparaging <br />remarks made about it in a letter to the editor. <br /> Ms. Richards said she feels the important aspect is the symbolism of the sister city <br />relationship between communities at the beginning and end of the Lewis and Clark trail. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty said she feels the sister city relationship would providean <br />opportunity to teach history, to work on the celebration of the bicentennial, and to <br />increase tourism. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said he supports-the.concept, but would prefer to defer the matter <br />until October 4 so that Albemarle County can be asked.to be involved. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox said he would also tike to see the pairing involve Albemarle County and <br />he would tike more information as he has no mental picture of Long Beach. <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br /> On motionby Mr. Caravati, seconded by Ms. Richards, the following consent <br />agenda items were approved by the following vote: Ayes: Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Ms. <br />Daugherty, Ms. Richards.
