Mr. Toscano said he agrees that housing is the number one priority in <br />low income neighborhoods. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell said Ridge Street is expected to be a priority in the capital budget <br />this year in addition to CDBG funds~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said he would be interested in explor;mg sharing HOME funds with <br />other jurisdictions to increase their Iow income housing. <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said that CDBG funds are typically not large enough for major <br />construction projects. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty said she would not be adverse to looking at Mr. Caravati's <br />suggestion. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano said he feels Mr. Caravati's idea is worth exploring and asked if <br />there would be a prohibition to putting alt funds in one pot and having localities compete <br />for it to meet the overall goals of the region. <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said the question remains about what does a "fair share of low <br />income housing" mean, and we need to know what kinds of measures need to be taken. <br /> <br />P~SENTATION: YEAR 2000 STATUS UPDATE <br /> <br /> Ms. Linda Peacock, A~sistant City Manager, gave a status report on the City's <br />Year 2000 compliance and contingency plans. Ms. Peacock said that City systems are <br />98% complete. <br /> <br /> Ivls. Richards noted that other countries will reach Year 2000 first and any system <br />failures they experience may cause alarm in the United States. <br /> <br />RF~. OLUTION: APPROVING SPECIAL PERMIT FOR HIGHER OCCUPANCY <br />FOR t025 WERTLAND STREET <br /> <br /> Mr. James Tolbert, Director of Neighborhood Planning and Development <br />Services, explained that Wade Apartmems has requested that a special permit allowing <br />up to six unrelated persons be approved for 1025 Wertland Street. The building is being <br />renovated and the lower floors are proposed to be offices and the upper floor apartments. <br />Mr. Tolbert said that the prope~r owner is applying for tfistoric preservation tax credits <br />for the renovation. Mr. Tolbert said that the Planning Commission recommended <br />approval ofthe special permit for the following reasons: 1) It is in harmony with the <br />Land Use Plan of the Comprehensive Plan and 2~ It will not have any significant adverse <br />Lmpact on the surrounding neighborhood. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Caravati, Mr. Tolbert said that the tax credits <br />are being sought for renovation of that one building. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr, Tosmno, seconded by Mr. Caravati, the resolution approving a <br />special permit for higher occupancy for 1025 Wertland Street was approved by the <br />following vote. Ayes: Mr. Caravati, Ms. Daugherty, Ms. Richards, Mr. Toscano. Noes: <br />None. Absent: Mr. Cox. <br /> <br /> <br />
