232

Mr. Cox said that new street construction is mandated by the state to be suburban
in width and it is hard to have a smaller road other than through a PUD. Mr. Cox asked if
there is a way to reduce the size of roads as we took at new residential housing.

Mr. Tolbert said he has just been notified by the Department of Transportation
that the City can change the standards to have smaller streets.

Mr. Cox said he would like to see successful community involvement, with
people able to access information other than just word-based, and asked how staff is
planning to involve the public. Mr. Supler said that the Planning Commission will need to focus on the
greater good of the City as it develops the plan.

Mr. Cox said there may need to be a series of meetings with the Housing
Authority to get public housing residents involved.

Mr. O'Connell said it will be important to set priorities when talking to
neighborhoods to avoid long lists and high expectations.

Mr. Slayton said the cost of projects will also need to be considered to assure that
projects are feasible.

The meeting was adjourned.

NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING

A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Friday, November
12, 1999 AT 11:45 a.m. INTHE Johr~mn Elementary School.

THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS:

Luncheon meeting with School Board

BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR

BY Jeanne Cox (signed)

JOHNSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - November 12, 1999

Council met in special session on this date with the fotlow~g members present:
Mr. Caravati, Ms. Daugherty, Mr. Toscano.
