292 <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said she thinks it would be divisive for the community to explore <br />other sites while Jefferson School is being explored. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch said he thinks it would be better to utilize community and University <br />resources to reduce the reliance and cost rather than rely solely on the consultants. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati noted that the School Board is See to explore the feasibility of other <br />sites on their own. <br /> <br />site. <br /> <br />Mr. Cox said he thought Council made it clear that their preference is for an urban <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell noted that the capital budget provides $10 million to the Schools <br />over the next five years, and the development opportunities on the Jefferson site may help <br />expand opportunities for the SchootBoard since the pre-school proposal could use up <br />most of this budget. <br /> <br /> Dr. Symons said he is hearing that the Council and School Board are in <br />concurrence with the RFP process. Dr. Symons said he will meet with staffs to put <br />together a timeline and RFP, which he feels can be drafted within 90 days. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch said we need to get the public involved earlier in the RFP process, and <br />should get the Jefferson School building on the historic register as soon as possible. <br /> <br />Mr. Campbell said that historic designation may have no impact on tax credits. <br /> <br />Mr. Caravati said that part of the project will be on the historic register in the end. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano said the important thing is to save the building, noting that we may <br />want to designate a larger site as historic, but we need to be sure what such designation <br />means. Mr. Toscano said that saving the building should be part of the RFP, and said we <br />need to get information on how the designation will assist us in that goal. Mr. Toscano <br />said he supports fhe RFP process. He said he feels that the public process is really <br />important, and we need to educate people about what will need to happen to pull this off, <br />such as significant outside financial involvement.
