38 <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Friday, May 24, <br />1985 AT 2:00 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Work session on ordinance regarding street vendor policy on <br />sidewalks and streets. <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - May 24, 1985 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session for a work session on <br />the street vendor policy on this date with the following <br />members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, <br />Absent: Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck requested that merchants who wish to speak <br />restrict their comments to the proposed ordinance. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Nelson, a vendor on the downtown mall, <br />suggested limiting the number of vendors but maintaining <br />the sixteen proposed locations. <br /> <br /> Ms. Sarah Watson, a former vendor from Burlington, <br />Vermont, explained how vendors are regulated in that <br />area. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, <br />stated that one recommended change to the ordinance was <br />to make stationary carts a maximum size of 8' x 8' x 8' <br />and moveable carts a maximum of 4' x 4' x 8' <br /> <br /> Mr. Richard Lawrence of the Satin Moon, recommended <br />that merchants maintain the right to place merchandize <br />outside their stores. <br /> <br /> It was recommended that vendors only be allowed to <br />sell merchandise from the fixed locations, not en route <br />from one location to another. <br /> <br /> Mr. Frank Ferneyhough of the University Bookstore, <br />stoke in opposition to merchants having to obtain a <br />permit in order to place merchandise outside their stores. <br /> <br /> The issue of whether to charge a one-time fee or an <br />annual fee for merchants with businesses was discussed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that Council and staff would hold a <br />work session on the ordinance and then after another <br />ordinance was drafted, there would be an opportunity for <br />public comment. <br /> <br /> was adjourned. <br /> <br />Pre'L~~ <br /> <br /> NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Tuesday, <br />May 28, 1985 AT following Planning Commission meeting <br />which begins at 7:30 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Work session on street vendor policy <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br /> <br />
