5O Dr. Vincent Cibbarelli, Superintendent of City Schools, recommended that Council approve the agreement as he felt the bus system would be safer and more efficient. Responding to a question by Dr. Gunter concerning the use of seat belts on school buses, Dr. Cibbarelli stated that the current recommendation is that they not be used. Mr. Barnes asked what school bus arrangements existed in other cities. Mr. Hendrix responded that there are varied arrangements in other cities. Dr. Cibbarelli stated that there would be a significant saving in insurance costs with the transfer. Mr. Buck recommended that staff compare the program in the next few years with the service as previously provided by the schools. On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the resolution authorizing the City Manager to sign an agreement to provide school bus transportation was unanimously approved by Council. BE IT RESOLVED by the CoUncil Of t~ City of Charlottes- V~Ile, that the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute on behalf~of the City the following~dQcument.~ in form approved by the City Attorney: School Bus Transportation Agreement A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the minutes of the Council meeting at which this resolution was adopted. RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO SIGN DEED TO CONVEY PROPERTY ON RIALTO STREET Mr. Hendrix stated that part of a house on Rialto Street was on the City's right of way and staff recommended that the City sell the property for its fair market value of %50.00. On motion by Dr. Gunter, seconded by Dr. Hall, Council unanimously approved the resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign a deed to convey property on Rialto Street. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottes- ville, that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the City the following document, in form approved by the City Attorney: Quitclaim deed between the City of CharlottesVille and Ann Kidd Moore in connection with parcel of land on corner of Rockland Avenue and Rialto Street. A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the minutes of the Council meeting at which this resolution was adopted. RESOLUTION: APPROVING TRANSIT GRANT APPLICATION On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Dr. Gunter, the resolution approving the transit grant application was unanimously approved by CounciI.
