ORDINANCE: ANNUAL TAX LEVY ON REAL ESTATE AND TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY Mr. Hendrix stated that the tax rate was proposed to remain the same and was being considered at this time so that notices could be sent out in early April. Mr. Barnes noted that he felt Charlottesville's tax rate was fairly high when compared statewide. Mr. Buck stated that he felt that considering the tax rate at this time supported the sense on Council that the budget and proposed programs should be set within the existing tax rate. On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH THE ANNUAL TAX LEVY ON VARIOUS CLASSES OF PROPERTY FOR THE PAYMENT OF INTEREST AND RETIREMENT OF THE CITY DEBT, FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT AND CITY SCHOOLS, AND FOR OTHER PUBLIC PURPOSES" was offered and carried over to the next meeting for consideration.
