<br /> Mrs. Gleason noted that the utility rates had been
<br />raised in order to cover increased costs to the City.

<br /> The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND
<br />REORDAIN SECTIONS 12-3, 12-6, 12-7, 24-2, AND 29-2, AS
<br />AMENDED, OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976,
<br />RELATING TO CITY GAS, WATER AND SEWER CHARGES" which was
<br />offered at the meeting of June 2nd, was approved by the
<br />following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason,
<br />Dro Gunter. Noes: None. Absent: Dr. Hall.

<br />ORDINANCE: CONVEYING BETH ISRAEL CEMETERY TO CONGREGATION BETH
<br />ISRAEL (2nd reading)

<br /> The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AUTHORIZE THE
<br />RECONVEYANCE OF A CEMETERY, KNOWN AS HEBREW CEMETERY,
<br />LOCATED ON THE EAST SIDE OF FIRST STREET IN THE CITY OF
<br />CHARLOTTESIVLLE TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE RELIGIOUS
<br />CONGREGATION OF BETH ISRAEL TEMPLE OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, AND
<br />TO RETURN TO THE CONGREGATION $4,000.00 IN PERPETUAL CARE
<br />FUNDS" which was offered at the meeting of June 2nd, was
<br />approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr.
<br />Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter. Noes: None. Absent: Dr.
<br />Hall.

<br />There were no matters by the public.

<br />OTHER BUSINESS
<br />
<br /> Mrs. Gleason offered a resolution praising Dr.
<br />Gunter's four years on Council. Mr. Barnes seconded the
<br />motion and it was unanimously approved by Council.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, you have served the City of Charlotteville
<br />as a member of City Council from July 1, 1982 through June
<br />30, 1986; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, during such time you have carried out your
<br />duties with honor, dedication and a sincere determeination
<br />to Serve the interests of the City and all of its people;
<br />and~
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, you chose not to seek re-election in order
<br />to devote yourself more fully to new and expanded career
<br />responsibilities;~
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
<br />City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that we, your fellow
<br />councilors, on behalf of the citizens of this City, do
<br />hereby express to you, MARY ALICE GUNTER, our deepest
<br />appreciation for your unique perspective which provided
<br />valuable insight, your persistent questioning, your sense
<br />of humor and quick wit, your patience and gracious manner,
<br />and your willingness to listen and study, then speak and
<br />act!in accordance with your convictions. You will be
<br />missed and not forgotten.
<br />
<br /> Dr. Gunter stated that it had been a privilege and an
<br />hon~r to serve on Council.
<br />
<br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes,
<br />Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session to
<br />discuss personnel matters, acquisition of public property,
