284 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br /> <br />APPROVING COST OF LIVING ALLOWANCE FOR RETIREES <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell stated that the Retirement Commission <br />had recommended that retirees be given a cost of living <br />allowance equal to half of that for current employees, or <br />1.75%. Mr. O'Connell noted that the retirees were paid <br />out of the Reti.rement Commission funds. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe requested information on the number of <br />retired employees currently receiving retirement. <br /> <br /> - Mr. O'Connell stated that he would provide <br />information concerning the number of retirees before the <br />next meeting. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />resolution approving the cost of living allowance for <br />retirees was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Retirement Plan Commission has approved <br />a post retirement supplement of 1.75% of the current <br />retirement pay of each presently retired employee <br />effective July 1, 1986; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Retirement Plan Commission reports to <br />Council that the Retirement Fund contains sufficient funds <br />to pay such supplement; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, City Council and the Retirement Plan <br />Commission agree that the City's contribution to the <br />Retirement Fund will be adjusted as a result of the next <br />biennial valuation so as to account for the ongoing <br />payment of such supplement; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council fo the <br />City of Charlottesville, Virginia that the Retirement Plan <br />Commission is authorized and directed to provide for the <br />payment from the retirement Fund of a post retirement <br />supplement of 1.75% of the current retirement pay of each <br />presently retired employee effective July 1, 1986. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPOINTING VIEWERS TO CONSIDER CLOSING AN UNTRAVELED <br />PORTION OF W. MAIN ST. AND WATER ST, <br /> <br /> Mr. Wiley stated that the portion of W. Main Street <br />and Water Street that was being requested to be closed was <br />actually inside the present sidewalk, though legally part <br />of the street. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconed by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />resolution appointing viewers to consider closing an <br />untraveled portion of W. Main Street and Water Street was <br />unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has received a petition <br />requesting vacation of an untraveled portion of Water <br />Street and West Main Street, located behind the sidewalk <br />adjacent to City Real Property Tax Map 28 Parcels 88 and <br />89; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it appears to Council that the notice <br />required by Section 15.1-364 of the Code of Virginia <br />(1950), as amended, has been duly advertised; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville that Ms. Mary Jane Haynes, Messrs. W.J. <br />Copeland and H. P. Winn, Jr. report in writing to Council <br />what inconvenience, if any, would result from such <br />vacation. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> <br />
