294 <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />$61,995 appropriation of the Youth Service Center Grant <br />was offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: CLOSING AN UNTRAVELED PORTION OF W. MAIN STREET AND <br />WATER STREET <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that neither staff nor the viewers <br />had any adverse comments about closing the untraveled <br />portion of W. Main and Water Streets. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND <br />DISCONTINUING PORTIONS OF PROPERTY ADJACENT TO WATER <br />STREET" was offered and carried over to the next meeting <br />for consideration. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: REZONING PROPERTY LOCATED AT 407 2ND STREET, N.E. <br />FROM R-2 TO B-1 <br /> <br /> This item was deferred until the next meeting at the <br />request of the applicant. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the City/County/University <br />Policy and Technical Committees had recommended that a <br />Venable Neighborhood Task Force be appointed and had <br />presented a list of recommended members. Mr. Hendrix <br />stated that Council should decide whether the Policy <br />Committee or the jurisdictions should appoint the Task <br />Force. <br /> <br /> It was the consensus of Council that the respective <br />jurisdictions appoint the members of the Task Force and <br />that the recommended names be taken into consideration but <br />that the Task Force also be advertised. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe praised Mr. Gary O'Connell, Deputy City <br />Manager, 'and Mr. Buck for their recent presentations at <br />the Virginia Municipal League conference for newly elected <br />officials. Mr. Towe stated that the Race Relations and <br />Employment Task Force had met and he hoped that it would <br />prove to be beneficial to the community. Mr. Towe <br />presented a medalion to the Mayor from the Bergstrass Men's <br />Choir from Germany who had recently performed in Charlottes- <br />ville with the Municipal Band. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, <br /> Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session to <br /> discuss legal matters as exempted by Section 2.1-344(a)(6) <br /> of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. <br />ing was adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
