<br />COUNCIL CHAMBER, NOVEMBER 21, 1938
<br />The Council met in regular session on this date with the following members
<br />present: Cdr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Cdr. Huff, Mr. Jessup, and Mr. Peyton.
<br />Minutes of the Meeting of November 7, 1938, were read and approved.
<br />Mr. Strother Hamm, addressed the Council on behalf of the Retail Merchants
<br />Association and requested that the City furnish electricity for Christmas lights on
<br />Alain Street during the holiday season. On motion by Dr. Haden, seconded by '111r.
<br />Gleason, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville
<br />that $50.00 or as much thereof as may be necessary be and the same is
<br />hereby appropriated for electricity in accordance with the foregoing request.
<br />On motion by ,Mr. Gleason, a County Water Connection was granted to F. Ili. Hibgins.
<br />On motion the petition of M. L. porter relative to change in the Zoning Limits
<br />on Frys Spring Road was carried over for further consideration.
<br />On motion an application for a permit to operate a gasoline filling station on
<br />Application the West side of Route 29 about 300 feet North of the intersection of Route 250 was
<br />Filling Station
<br />Permit presented and carried over in order to comply with the City Code.
<br />On motion by Mr. Jessup, seconded by Mr. Gleason, the following report was
<br />unanimously adopted, and the Mayor and Clergy of the Council were authorized and
<br />instructed to sign deed when sale is made:

<br />Lexington Ave. on the corner of Lexington Avenue and High Street to buy
<br />& High Street a narrow strip on Lexington Avenue and on High Street, and
<br />we recommend that the strip referred to on High Street not
<br />be sold, but that along Lexington Avenue be sold at $150.00
<br />with the further provisions that the City be held harmless
<br />for the grading of the sidewali� along this strip on Lexing-
<br />tion Avenue, to the level of the Street, at any time that
<br />it is desirable for the City to do so.
