s Electricity for Christmas Lights Appropriation for Christmas Lights County Water Connection Zoning Change Carried Over Clerk Pr s'dent COUNCIL CHAMBER, NOVEMBER 21, 1938 The Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Cdr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Cdr. Huff, Mr. Jessup, and Mr. Peyton. Minutes of the Meeting of November 7, 1938, were read and approved. Mr. Strother Hamm, addressed the Council on behalf of the Retail Merchants Association and requested that the City furnish electricity for Christmas lights on Alain Street during the holiday season. On motion by Dr. Haden, seconded by '111r. Gleason, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that $50.00 or as much thereof as may be necessary be and the same is hereby appropriated for electricity in accordance with the foregoing request. On motion by ,Mr. Gleason, a County Water Connection was granted to F. Ili. Hibgins. On motion the petition of M. L. porter relative to change in the Zoning Limits on Frys Spring Road was carried over for further consideration. On motion an application for a permit to operate a gasoline filling station on Application the West side of Route 29 about 300 feet North of the intersection of Route 250 was Filling Station Permit presented and carried over in order to comply with the City Code. On motion by Mr. Jessup, seconded by Mr. Gleason, the following report was unanimously adopted, and the Mayor and Clergy of the Council were authorized and instructed to sign deed when sale is made: November 21, 1938 To the ,Members of the City Council City of Charlottesville, Virginia Gentlemen: Rei ort re property on ii7e have investigated the request of the property owner Lexington Ave. on the corner of Lexington Avenue and High Street to buy & High Street a narrow strip on Lexington Avenue and on High Street, and we recommend that the strip referred to on High Street not be sold, but that along Lexington Avenue be sold at $150.00 with the further provisions that the City be held harmless for the grading of the sidewali� along this strip on Lexing- tion Avenue, to the level of the Street, at any time that it is desirable for the City to do so.
