AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE OBSTRUCTING OF STREETS DURING THE ERECTION OF BUILDINGS. <br />ADOPTED OCTOBER 13, 1904. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, That in the construction erection or repair of any <br /> <br />buildings, walls, fences or other structures along the line of any sidewalk, or abutting <br /> <br />thereon, the footway in front of the same shall not be obstructed in any way, but for the <br /> <br />protection of persons passing a shed or platform shall be erected over the sidewalk which <br /> <br />shall be at least eight (8) feet high and as wide as the sidewalk and long as the <br /> <br />building or other structure which is being erected, under which persons may safely walk; <br /> <br />nor shall more than one-fourth (1/4) of the street in front of the lot upon which such <br /> <br />building, wall, fence or other structure is being erected or repaired be obstructed by <br /> <br />building material, provided that wherever, owing to wiring or other obstructions it is <br /> <br />impossible to erect a scaffold without placing pole upon the sidewalk, any contactor <br /> <br />may place supporting poles upon the sidewalk, but they shall be so placed as not to <br /> <br />obstruct an unreasonable portion thereof. <br /> <br />II. That use of such sidewalk or street shall not be allowed longer than a reason- <br /> <br />able time for the erection of the building, wall, fence or other structure, and thereupon <br /> <br />the builder or contractor shall remove the said obstruction, and any damage done to the <br /> <br />said walk or street by such builder or contractor shall be repaired by him. <br /> <br />PENALTY. Any person violating this ordinance shall be fined not less than one <br /> <br />dollar ($1.00) nor more than five dollars ($5.00) for each day he shall continue in default. <br /> <br />Presented October 20, 1904; approved October 20, 1904. <br />{Mayor’s signature} <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE ERECTION OF BUILDINGS ALONG SIDEWALKS OR STREETS. <br /> <br />ADOPTED OCTOBER 13, 1904. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, That any person erecting any building or fence <br /> <br />along any street or sidewalk shall, previous to the erection of the same, get a permit <br /> <br />from the City Engineer or Street Commissioner, whose duty it shall be to designate and <br /> <br />lay off the line along which said building or fence abutting upon the street or sidewalk <br /> <br />shall be laid. <br /> <br />PENALTY. Any person violating the provisions of the ordinance shall be fined not less than ten dollars ($10.00) nor <br /> <br />more than one hundred dollars ($100.00). <br /> <br />Presented October 20, 1904; approved October 20, 1904. <br />{Mayor’s signature} <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE FORBIDDING THE THROWING OF GLASS, ETC., ON STREETS. <br />ADOPTED OCTOBER 13, 1904. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, That any person who shall throw glass, broken or <br /> <br />otherwise, or other sharp substances of a dangerous nature upon any street or sidewalk <br /> <br />shall be fined not less than one dollar ($1.00) nor more than ten dollars ($10.00) for <br /> <br />each offense. <br /> <br />Presented October 20, 1904; Approved October 20, 1904. <br />{Mayor’s signature-Olivier}
