AN ORDIANCE REGUALTING THE HAULING OF EARTH ETC., OVER STREETS OF THE CITY. <br /> <br />(Adopted October 13,1904.) <br /> <br />BE, IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, That no person shall haul in any wagon or cart, <br /> <br />or otherwise convey any earth,dirt or sand over any paved or Macadamized street except <br /> <br />in close wagon beds,close carts or tther conveyances,through which no dirt, earth or sand <br /> <br />will sift or fall on the street; nor shall any person so hauling dirt, earth,or sand load <br /> <br />his wagon, cart or other conveyance so full as to allow any of the dirt, earth or sand <br /> <br />to jolt off or fall on the street. <br /> <br />PENALTY. Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be fined not <br /> <br />less than one dollar ($1.00) nor more than ten dollars ($10.00) for each offense. <br /> <br />Presented October 20,1904; Approved October 20,1904. <br />Mayor Signature. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE ORDIANCES GOVERING THE EXAMINATION OF GAS METERS AND THE RENDERING OF <br />GAS BILLS. <br /> <br />(Adopted December, 9, 1904.) <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL,That sections 4 and 7 of Chapter 12 of the <br /> <br />Ordinances of the City of Charlottesville be amended and re-enacted so as to read as <br /> <br />follows:-- <br /> <br />SECTION: 4. EXAMINATION OF METERS. It shall be the duty of the Superintendent of <br /> <br />the Gas Works on the last day of Bach month to examine' the state of the meters used by <br /> <br />the Gas consumers and to furnish the treasurer with a statement of the amount of gas <br /> <br />used by each consumer during the preceding month, and at the same time furnish to said <br /> <br />consumer a statement showing the amount of gas used by him and the amount due by him for <br /> <br />said gas. <br /> <br />SECTION 7. Gas bills shall be in the hands of the treasurer on the 5th, day of <br /> <br />each month and the amount of the same shall be due and payable at the office of the <br /> <br />treasurer not later than the tenth day of the month. It shall be the duty of the <br /> <br />treasurer to notify the Superintendent of the Gas Works of all delinquencies and the <br /> <br />Superintendent shall innediately cut off the connection of each delinquent and in no <br /> <br />case shall he again tuen on the connection unless notified to do so by the chairman of <br /> <br />thh Gas Committe who shall receive notice from the treasurer that the delinquent bill <br /> <br />has been paid. For any negligence on the part of the treasurer to so notify the super- <br /> <br />intendent he shall be held personally responsible for the amount of the bill. <br /> <br />Presented December 12,1904; Approved December 15,1904. <br /> <br />Mayor Signature. <br /> <br />AN ORDIANCE PROHIBITING TR ACTION OT OTHER HEAVY ENGINES FROM RUNNING ON OR CROSSING MAIN STREET. <br /> <br />(Adopted January,12,1905. ) <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE; -- <br /> <br />That it shall be unlawful to convey any traction or other heavy engine having flanged, <br /> <br />corrugated or bevelled wheels, on or across main street, without its being transported on a <br /> <br />temporary track of plank or other suitable material, or being placed on another conveyance <br /> <br />that will not damage the brick pavement. <br /> <br />2. Any person violating the provisions of the foregoing lection shall, on conviction <br /> <br />thereof, be fined not less than five dollars ($5.00) nor more than fifty dollars ($50.00) <br /> <br />for each and every offence. The fines shall be recoverable before the Police Justice of <br /> <br />the City of Charlottesville. <br /> <br />3. This ordinance shall be in force from the date of its approval. <br /> <br />Presented January 17th,1905; Approved Jaunary 17,1905. <br /> <br />Mayor Signature.
