27 <br />AN ORDINANCE <br /> <br />PROHIBITING UNDER THE AGE OF FIFTEEN YEARS FROM BEING UPON STREETS OF CITY <br /> <br />AFTER CERTAIN HOURS AT NIGHT. <br /> <br />1. BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that it shall <br /> <br />be unlawful fur any person under the age of fifteen years to be in or upon the streets <br /> <br />avenues or alleys of this city after 7:30 o'clock P.M. from the first day of October <br /> <br />to the first day of May, or after 9 o'clock P.M. from the first day of May to the <br /> <br />first day of October, unless accompamied by and in the care of its parent or guardian, <br /> <br />or some other adult with the consent of its parent,or guardian, or unless actually <br /> <br />executing an emergency errand upon which it has been sent by its parent or guardian, <br /> <br />or unless such person be employed in business and his employment slakes it necessary <br /> <br />for him to be upon the streets, avenues and alleys of the City during the night time <br /> <br />after said specified hours. <br /> <br />Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be summoned to appear <br /> <br />before the Police Justice for such violation, and, upon conviction shall be fined not <br /> <br />less than one nor more than five dollars for each offence, and the Police Justice <br /> <br />imposing said fine may extend the tine of payment of said fine, not exceeding thirty <br /> <br />days upon the recognizance of the accused. <br /> <br />PROHIBITING PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF FIFTEEN YEARS FROM BEING UPON THE STREETS OF THE <br /> <br />CITY AFTER CERTAIN HOURS AT NIGHT. <br /> <br />1. BE IT ORIDANIED by Council of the City of Charlottesville that it shall be unlawful for any person under the age <br /> <br />of fifteen to be in or upon the streets avenues or alleays of this city after 7:30 P.M. from the first day of October <br /> <br />to the forst day of May, or after 9 o' clock P.M. from the forst day of May to the first day of October, unless accompained <br /> <br />bt and in the care of its parent or guardian, or some other adult with the consent of its parnet, or guardian, <br /> <br />or unless actually excuting an emergency errans upon which it has been sent by its parent of guardian, or unless such person be <br /> <br />employed in business and his employment makes necessary for him to be upon the streets, <br /> <br />avenues and alleys of the City during the night time after said specfied hours. <br /> <br />Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be summoned to appear before the Police Justice for such <br /> <br />voilation, and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than one nor more than five dollars for each offence, <br /> <br />and the Police Justice imposing said fine may extend the time of payment of said fine, not exceeding thrity <br /> <br />days upon the recogizance of the accused. <br /> <br />2. It shall be the duty of the Chief of the Fire Department each day in the year <br /> <br />fifteen minutes before the time specified in the first section of this ordinance, to <br /> <br />cause to be rung the bell of the Fire Department for ten successive strokes. <br /> <br />3. It is hereby made unlawful for any parent or guardian having the legal <br /> <br />custody of any child under fifteen years of age to allow or permit any such child or <br /> <br />ward under such age to go or be in or upon any street, avenue or alley in violation of <br /> <br />the provisions of section 1 of this ordinance. Anir person violating the provisions <br /> <br />of this section shall be summoned to appear before the Police Justice for such viola- <br /> <br />tion, and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than one nor more than five dollars <br /> <br />for each offence. <br /> <br />4. This ordinance shall be in force from and after the 1st, day of August,1907 <br /> <br />and, shall be published in some newspaper of this city at least ten times before the <br /> <br />date it becomes effective. <br /> <br />presented and approved July 13,1907 Adopted July 11, 1907 <br />Mayor Signature Vice President Signature. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR PUNISHMENT OF ANY PERSON FOUND GUILTY <br /> <br />OF DISTURRBING OR TAMPERING WITH HUBS OR MONUMENTS ERECTED ON THE CORPORATE LIMITS SURVEY: <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Street Committee following the instructions of the Council has at con- <br /> <br />siderable expense employed a competent engineer to get the corporate lines established <br /> <br />and permanently marked, using concrete hubs wherever necessary so as to preserve the <br /> <br />xxx line for future reference; therefore be it <br /> <br />RESOLVED: That to move, disturb or in any way tamper with above mentioned hubs or <br /> <br />monuments erected by the engineer to establish the corporate lints, as set forth on <br /> <br />the plat furnished by the engineer, of the City of Charlottesville, shall be a misde- <br /> <br />meanor and punishable by fine as follows; <br /> <br />To move, disturb or interfere with corner hubs, the sum of one hundred dollars; <br /> <br />To move, disturb or interfere with intermediate hubs, the sum of twenty five dollars; <br /> <br />or imprisonment in jail at the discretion of the Police Justice in lieu of the finess <br /> <br />mentioned above, <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in force from its passage. <br /> <br /> <br />Presented and approved August 10,1907.
