20 <br /> <br />36—EXHIBITING ELECTRICAL MACHINES, ETC. <br /> <br />Every person exhibiting for pay Electrical Machines for testing strength <br /> <br />or other machines or implements, on the streets or any location, for profit, shall pay <br /> <br />a specific license tax of five dollars ($5.) per annum or two dollars per week. <br /> <br />NOT TRANSFERABLE. <br /> <br />37 --EXPRESS AIM TRAINSPORTATION COMPANIES. <br /> <br />Every Express Company or railroad doing an express business, having an office <br /> <br />or doing business in this city, shall pay for the exercise of this of this privilege a specific <br /> <br />tax of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.) for a year or part of a year. <br /> <br />At a meeting of the Council April 11,1907 this 37th, section was amended as <br /> <br />Follows; <br /> <br />But when two companies are operated jointly under the same agency and office the <br /> <br />combined license tax shall be two hundred dollars. <br /> <br />38—FEED STABLES OR WAGON YARDS. <br /> <br />Each person keeping a reed Stable or wagon yard shall pay a specific license tax <br /> <br />of ten dollars ($10. ). No pro rata. <br /> <br />39 –FLOUR AND MEAL MANUFACTURES. <br /> <br />On every license to a manufacturer of Flour and Veal the tax shall be fifty <br /> <br />dollars ($50. ). But when such manufacturer deals in Flour, Meal or other grain produce <br /> <br />other than his own manufacture he shall phall be required to procure a merchant’s <br /> <br />license graduated by the amount of such purchases. <br /> <br />40--FORTUNE TELLERS. <br /> <br />Every person practicing the art of divination,fortune telling,or palmistry <br /> <br />who shall practice the same in this city shall pay a tax of twenty five dollars <br /> <br />for one year or ten dollars per month. Not transferable. <br /> <br />41--FOUNDRY AND MECHINE SHOPS. <br /> <br />On every license to a foundry the tax shall be twenty five dollars ($25.). <br /> <br />On every license to a Machine Shop the tax shall be twenty five dollars ($25.). <br /> <br />But if a foundry be conducted in conjunction with a machine shop the combined <br /> <br />tax shall be Forty dollars ($40.) . <br /> <br />42 --- FURNITURE UPHOLSTERER OR REPAIR. <br /> <br />On every license to a furniture upholsterer or repairer the tax shall be ten <br /> <br />dollars (10. ) . <br /> <br />43 - HOBBY -HORSES, FTC. <br /> <br />The license tax on Hobby Horse Machines, Merry-go-rounds or other like machines <br /> <br />Shall be twenty-five dollars per week of six running days, or ten dollars ($10.) per <br /> <br />day if issued for less period than one week. <br /> <br />44--- HOTELS. <br /> <br />Any person who shall for compensation furnish lodging diet and entertainment for <br /> <br />travelers, sojourners, guests or boarders, in his house, and sell by retail wine, <br /> <br />spiritous or malt liquors, or any mixture of them, shall be deemed to keep a Hotel. <br /> <br />And the specific tax which shall be paid for the privilege of keeping shall be four hundred dollars ($400.), <br /> <br />and an additional tax of two dollars for each available room in such hotel for lodging and accommodation of guests. <br /> <br />45 – ICE DEALERS AND MANUFACTURERS. <br /> <br />On each person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of manufacturing and dealing ice, <br /> <br />the license tax shall be fifty dollars ($50.) for each plant operating. <br /> <br />46 - -INSURANCE COMPANIES, ACCIDNET. <br /> <br />On every license tax to a person or firm to act as agent or solicitor for an <br /> <br />Accident Insurance Company not having its principal or home in this city, there shall be <br /> <br />specific license tax for doing business in this city of thirty dollars for each company represented. <br /> <br />On all Steam Boiler Insurance Companies, the license tax shall be the same as on Accident Insurance Companies. <br /> <br />47 - -INSURANCE COMPANIES----FIRE, ETC. <br /> <br />On every license tax to a person or firm to act as agent or solicitor for an <br /> <br />Fire Insurance Company not having its principal office in this city, there shall be <br /> <br />specific license tax for doing business in this city of thirty dollars ($30.) for each company represented. <br /> <br />When two or more agents not acting as co-partners and representing the same company, <br /> <br />each of such shall be required to produce a license. <br /> <br />Every agent or solicitor paying the aforesaid license is allowed to employ canvassers. <br /> <br />49---INSURANCE COMPANIES – GUARANTEE. <br /> <br />On every license to a Person or firm to act as agent or solicitor of for any company <br /> <br />guaranteeing official or other bonds, not having its principal or home office in this city <br /> <br />there shall be specific license tax for doing business in this city of twenty five dollars <br /> <br /> for each company represented. <br /> <br />50—INSURANCE --- INDUSTRIAL AND PRUDENTIAL. <br /> <br />On every license to an Industrial or prudential Insurance Company doing business in this city, or any person <br /> <br />or firm, acting as agent for such company/ there shall be <br /> <br />A specific tax of thirty dollars ($30.) and in addition thereto there shall be a specfic tax of ten dollars ($10.) <br /> <br />for each and every agent, solicitor or collector. <br /> <br />The definition of an Industrial and prudential Insurance Company in this section <br /> <br />shall be a company that writes small policies on lives, the premiums on which are payable weekly. <br /> <br />Any old line Insurance Com­pany doing an Industrial or Prudential business erect <br /> <br />pay the foregoing license tax in addition to the license tax imposed upon it by ___ <br /> <br />51 of this ordinance. <br /> <br /> <br />
