AN ORDINANCE ANINDING SEC, 176 OF THE CITY CODE.

<br />BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE,That Sec.176 of the City Code,
<br />
<br />entitled Sec.176--Bicycles, Automobiles,etc. be amended by the addition of the
<br />
<br />following clauses;
<br />
<br />176a. It shall be unlawful for a resident to run any automobile in the streets
<br />
<br />of Charlottesville unless the same be in the charge of a person who has registered
<br />
<br />in the Mayor's Office his name and his state license with number of car, and also
<br />
<br />applied for and received from the. Mayor a permit to run an automobile on the streets
<br />
<br />of said City. In all cases in which for any cause whatsoever the Mayor is
<br />
<br />unwilling to issue the permit, it shall be his duty and he is hereby authorized to
<br />
<br />have the applicant examined as to fitness, capacity and skill by some competent
<br />
<br />person to be designated by the Mayor.
<br />
<br />A non-resident will be permitted to run an automobile in the Oity of Charlottesville
<br />
<br />for a period of seven days nowithstanding the above limitation.
<br />
<br />176b. Any person operating a machine in the streets of Charlottesville unless in
<br />
<br />full compliance with clause a, shall be fined not less than ten dollars nor more
<br />
<br />than one hundred dollars for each offence.
<br />
<br />These amendments shall be in force from and after the first day of June,1912.
<br />

<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 307 OF THE CITY CODE:
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, That Sec. 307 of the City Code,
<br />
<br />entitled Sec. 307, Gaming, Slot Mechines, ect., be amended and re-ancted to
<br />
<br />read as follows;
<br />
<br />SEC.307. Gaming tables,slot machines,etc.
<br />
<br />If any person keep or exhibit a gaming table,commonly called A. B.C.or O.table,
<br />
<br />wheel of fortune, nickel -in-the-slot machine,faro bank,keno table, race course table,
<br />
<br />rave horse table, or any table of like kind, or any table, apparatus or machine used in
<br />
<br />plowing any game of chance at which money, article of value or a capital prize, may be
<br />
<br />won or lost whether the game be played with cards, dice, money or otherwise, or be a
<br />
<br />partner or concerned or interested either as owner, operator or employe, in keeping,
<br />
<br />exhibiting, using or operating such table machine, apparatus or bank, he shall be fined
<br />
<br />not exceeding, $50, and each day such machine apparatus or table is so used shall
<br />
<br />constitute a separate offense.
<br />
<br />This ordinance shall be in force from and after its passage.

<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND RE ENACTING SEC. 311-1/2 OF CITY CODE:
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, That sec.311-1/2 of the city code,
<br />
<br />entitled sec. 311-1/2 Segregation ordinance, be amended and re-enacted to read as
<br />
<br />follows;
<br />
<br />1. That it shall be unlawful for any white person to move into and thereafter occupy
<br />
<br />as a residence orp lace of albode any housebuilding or structure, or any part of any
<br />
<br />housebuilding or structure in any block in any street or alley in which block a
<br />
<br />greater dumber of houses are occupied as residences by colored people than are occupied
<br />
<br />as residences by white people.
<br />
<br />The word block, wherever the same is used in this ordinance, shall be construed to
