106 <br /> <br />mean that portion of any street or alley upon both sides of the same between two <br /> <br />intersecting streets (not counting so-called half streets which do not affect the <br /> <br />numbering) or the ends or and of the stre,:t or alley which has no intersecting street <br /> <br />crossing at the terminus. House numbers shall be taken as evidence of the beginning <br /> <br />or ending of a block where the intersecting street does not cross in a straight line <br /> <br />or where it only biseets,or where halt streets occur but do not affect the numbering <br /> <br />2. That it shall be unlawful for any colored person to move into and thereafter <br /> <br />occupy as a residence,or place of abode,any house building or structure,or ary part <br /> <br />of any housebuilding or structure in any block in any s treht or alley in which block <br /> <br />a greater number of houses are occupied as residences by white people tan are _ <br /> <br />as residences by colored people. <br /> <br />3. That no person shall construct or locate on any block or square on which then <br /> <br />is at that time no residents,any house or other building intended to be used as a <br /> <br />residence without declaring in his application for a permit to buil whether the house <br /> <br />or building so to be constructed is designed to be occupied by white or colored people <br /> <br />and no permit to build in such case shall be issued unless the applicant complies <br /> <br />the provisions of this section. <br /> <br />4. That noting in this ordinance shall be construed to interfere with the conti_ <br /> <br />occupation or use of any property in the manner in which it is occupied or used at <br /> <br />time this ordinance goes into effect by the persons so occupying and using it or to <br /> <br />prevent the occupation of residences by whit.. pr colored pervants or employes on the <br /> <br />square or block in which they are employed as domestics. <br /> <br />5. Every nerson,either by himself or through his agent violating, or any agent for <br /> <br />another violating,any one or more of the provisions of this ordinance shall be _ <br /> <br />to a fine of not less than fifty dollars nor more than one hundred dollars, _ <br /> <br />before the Police Justice of the City of Charlottesville, and each thrity days of <br /> <br />continued residence after notice to move,to eonstitlits a separate offense, and, in the <br /> <br />discretion of the Police 4Tuatice,sueb person may in addition thereto be confined in <br /> <br />the City jail not lose than thirty nor more than ninety days. <br /> <br />Th ordinance shall be in force from and after its passage. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council June 13,1912. Eating house. <br /> <br />The specific license tax on any person to engage in keeping an eating house <br /> <br />shall be twenty -five dollars ($25) , and any person who shall cook or otherwise _ <br /> <br />for compensation, diet or refreshments for casual use and sold for <br /> <br />consumption therein, shall be construed to be the keeper of an eating, house, <br /> <br />There shall not be sold under this license on Sunday anything but sandwiches and _ <br /> <br />prepared on the promises and only where meals are regularly prepared and sold on <br /> <br />other days. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in force from and after its passage. <br /> <br />Adopted by Council July 11, 1912.
