duty of enforcing this or any other ordinance; and the Mayor <br /> <br />shall especially see that all the requirements of this ordinance <br /> <br />are enforced, and to this end he shall, at least once a month, <br /> <br />especially require the police force to investigate violations of <br /> <br />this ordinance. <br /> <br />117. The Commissioner of the Revenue shall receive for each <br /> <br />license issued by him a fee of seventy-five cents, to be paid by <br /> <br />the party to whom said license is issued. <br /> <br />118. It shall be the duty of the Commissioner of the Revenue <br /> <br />to keep a hook, in which he shall classify all the branches of <br /> <br />business and occupation upon which a license is imposed by this <br /> <br />ordinance, and show the amount of assessment made upon each <br /> <br />license, the name of the person assessed, and the period for <br /> <br />which such license was issued. <br /> <br />On the first day of December, March, June and September <br /> <br />of each year be shall deliver to the hinance Committee extracts <br /> <br />from said book showing the entries therein made and the total <br /> <br />amount of licenses collected during the preceding three months, <br /> <br />properly classified. These extracts shall be certified under oath. <br /> <br />119. Tile taxes on licenses accruing under the provisions of <br /> <br />this ordinance shall be due and payable, except where otherwise <br /> <br />herein provided, on or before the thirteenth day of April, 1915, <br /> <br />and shall be paid by the person against whom assessed to the <br /> <br />Treasurer of the city in his office on or before the first day of <br /> <br />May. <br /> <br />120. Mayor Singature. <br />President Signature. <br /> <br />AN ORDIANCE AMENDING AND RE-ENACTING SECTION 176 OF THE CITY CODE AS ADOPTED JULY 10,1913: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CARLOTTESTILLE, That Sec. 176 of the City Code <br /> <br />be and the same is hereby amended and re-enasted to read as follows; <br /> <br />Sec. 176. BICYCLES, AUTOMOBILES, AND OTHER VEHICLES. <br /> <br />No bicycle or similar machine shall be used over the sidewalks of the City, and no <br /> <br />automobile, bicycle or similar machine shall be need over the streets at a greater <br /> <br />rate of speed than fifteen miles an hour under any conditions, nor at any rate of <br /> <br />speed under this maximum which the conditions in the streets would make unsafe. <br /> <br />Every such vehicle shall be provided with a bell, gong or horn of a usual type which <br /> <br />shall be sounded at street crossinge and whenever necessary to the safety of any person <br /> <br />using the streets, but at no other time; and no such, vehicle shall be used on the <br /> <br />streets after nightfall without it shall be provided with at least two lighted lamps <br /> <br />showing white lights visable for a reasonable distance in the direction towards which <br /> <br />the vehicle is going and one red light attached to the rear of said vehicles visable <br /> <br />for a reasonable distance in the rear thereof. <br /> <br />Any violatton of any provision of tris section shall be punihed by a fine of not <br /> <br />less than one dollar ($1.) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100) or in any case by <br /> <br />imprisonment in the City jail for not more than thirty days, or both by fine and <br /> <br />imprisonment as herein provided. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in forcefrom its passage. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council May 13, 1915 Presented and Approved May 14, 1915. <br />President Signature.
