<br />An Ordinance amending and re-enactingSections 3;'�;i,334,336,337 and 338 of t"e
<br />City Code of 1909.
<br />Be it Ordained by the Common Council of Charlottesville,tie Board of Aldermen
<br />concurring, That Sections 33393-34,636,337 and 338 of the City Code of 1909 be and
<br />are hereby amended to read as follows:
<br />Sec.363. CITY PHYSICIAN. The Board of Aldermen and t)►e Common Council may elect a
<br />city physician at a salary to be fixed at the time of tis election or before, or
<br />they may dispense with that officer. If one is elected, he shall told his position
<br />at the pleasure of the Aldermen and Council.
<br />See -664, The Cite Physician, when there is one, shall visit and attend all_ needy
<br />patients he may know to be in need of his services,or teat are reported to him,
<br />and report to tle health officer or inspector any infectious or contagious cases
<br />of whicl, remay have knowledge.
<br />See -336. BOAPT) OF HFALTu. The Board of wealth shall be corposed of five members two
<br />of w um erall be r.rysicians or trained sanitarians, to be elected biernually at the
<br />,joint meeting of tre Board of Aldermen and Common Council. Tt shall be the duty of
<br />this board to advise and coorerate wits the officer in charge of public health: and
<br />cont.-Ibute in any way open to it to the Prevention of disease.
<br />Sec. 337. i'EAI.TH OFFICER` , OR SAItiITAT-Y ]I'T ECTOR. There shall be a TTealth Officer
<br />or, if I -referred, a sanitary inspector who shall be the c1lief health officer,to be
<br />elected tiennually at the ,joint meeting of tti,,e Board of Aldermen and Common Ccuncill
<br />charged wits tl,e measures which should he taken for public sanitation and the
<br />prevention and reduction of disease and mortality; among tti,err the inspection of
<br />premises, abattoirs, dairies and rilk hers, and. all sources of tti e milk sold in this
<br />city, the means and methods of collecting it at the depots of distribution to
<br />consurners, the enforcement of all laws, federal, :.tate and municipal, prodded
<br />for safeguarding the purity of food and for the reroval from the market of unwhole-
<br />some food, and the managerment of all known and reported cases of conmunicahle diseases,
<br />inspection of quarantine, etc. When �,e deems it necessary he ma.y require the aid of
<br />tl'e police. y
<br />Sec.338. It el -all be the duty of t' -.e TTealth Officer or tl,, a sanitary Inspector, as
<br />the case may be, to care for the poor who have a just claim upon the city's bounty,
<br />and re is authorized to seek and use the cooperation of tie Charlottesville Public
<br />Health and District Nursing Association.. The approjiriation for the poor may be
<br />d.iebursed only on vo�c'�ere approved by rim.
<br />That all ordinances ard carte of ordinances in conflict wits these en_actr!ents be and
<br />the same are hereby repealed.

<br />That the proposal of Parker-Pussell 'ifining & Yfg. Co. of $2,1.50. t(; rebuild
<br />bench #2, be accepted, and the Yayor be and he is 'Zereby authorized to sign the
<br />contract for same on behalf of the City.
