<br />AN JORDINANCL TO AMUEND AND RE-ENACT SECTION 580 OF `1H"' CITY CODE,
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section
<br />580 of the City Code be ammended and re-enacted to read as follows:
<br />SLC. 580 iIOGS--UNLAW UL TO KREP IN CITY# EXCEPTION, ETC.
<br />It -hall be unlawful for any person to keep any live bog within the cor-
<br />porate limits of the City, except for im;ediate shipment or slaughter. Nor shall
<br />hobs be kept in pens on anall enclosures within one-quarter of a mile )f the cor-
<br />potate limits, except by permit from the City Board of Health. Any person violatin,
<br />Hog Ordina this section shall be fined not less than `1.00 nor more than $5.00 for each day such
<br />ante. violation continues.

<br />repealed.
<br />This ordinance shall become effective December 15th, 1922.

<br />SEC. 4. 1�0 PERMIT shall be granted ( or if already ;;ranted, same- shall be
<br />revoked, unless the following condit ons are complied ;,ith: 1. Bacterial Standard.
<br />Paw orasteurized milk or skimmed milk shall not contain more than fifty thousand
<br />(50, 0001 bacterial ( colonies) per cubic centimeter when delivered to the comsumer or
<br />at any time prior to such delivery. No raw milk or raw skimmed mil: produced in or
<br />shipped to the City of Charlottesville to be pasteurized, and intended to be sold in
<br />said City, shall contain more than two hundred thousand (200,000) b,..cterial ( Colonies)
<br />per cubic centimeter before pasteurization. Cream, pasteurized or raw, small no'- contain
<br />more than two hundred and fifty thjusand (250,000) bacteria ) Colonies ) per cubic centi-
<br />meter when delivered to the consumer, or at any time rrior to .such delivery.
<br />2. BUTTER -FAT AND 'OTHER SOLIDS. No milk sold in the Cityof Charlottesville
<br />shall contain less then 3.25'% butter -fat as shown by the Babcocktest, and 8.5% solids
<br />not fat.
<br />&ADULTERANTS AIdD PRESERVATIVES. No milk skimmed milkd cream or butter milt
<br />small be sold which has been adulterated by the addition of water, ice, skimmed milK or
<br />airy foreign substane,., or to which has been added boraeie acid salst boracic acid,
<br />salicylic acid, salicylate of soda, forinaline, formaldehyde, soudm flurode, sodium benzo
<br />or any other compound or substance that might preserve or color the same.
<br />4. �iUB��' CUL11i TESTING. Ail cows from which milk, skimmed milk, and cream re
<br />sold shall be tested for tuberculosis once each ye,,..r, and no milk shall be soli from any
<br />reac t inb animal in a given herd. All testing shall be done by a reliable veterinarian
<br />and shall be at th_e expense of the owners of the cows tested except when done by a
<br />representative of the Bureau of Animal Industry. IJo milk from diseased cows shall
<br />be sold. A certificate of health shall be filed with the Health Departmento
