<br />SEC, 29, DEPORTMLNT ON DUTY. Each member of the Police force must be quiet,
<br />civil courteous and orderly in his deportment and conduct; he must, at all times re-
<br />frain from violent or profane langue.ge, and in the �erdormance of his duty he must
<br />maintain full command of his temper. And, when on a tour of eerviee, must not, except
<br />when on duty together, walk or talk with each other, or ,,,ith any other person whom they
<br />meet on any part of their beats, unless it be to receive or communicate information
<br />appertaining to their duties, or to answer civilly, but briefly, qu stions of strangers
<br />or citizens really requiring their assistance or direction. They must not, under any
<br />circumstance, unless in discharge of their duties, enter any house, sit down, stop at
<br />the corners of thetreets ( for a longer period than ten minutes), or in any manner lin-
<br />ger along their routes, but are expected constantly to patrol their beats.
<br />SEC. 30, VEHICLES AT NIGHT. He ,hall take particular notice of all auto-
<br />mobiles and other vehicles at night, and all persons, who under any circumst,,,nces, ex -
<br />city suspicion.
<br />SEC. 31. SHALL NOT LEAVE HI 3EAT. He shall not leave the beat assigned him
<br />unless it be to answer a call from a ad joining beat, to convey a prisoner to the stEiti on
<br />house, or by permission of the Chief or Lieutenant.
<br />SEC. 02. :,'UST GEIVE NAME AND JJUNBLR. He must give his name and number to
<br />all persons who may inquire.
<br />SEC. 33,,iJUST KNOW RULES ANL REGULATIONS, All Policemen must acquire a full
<br />knowledge of the requirements and the rules and regulations provided for the governmert
<br />of the Police Force, and of the Ordinances of the city, in order to underst,,nd and
<br />properly preform their duties.
<br />SEC. 34. ',','HAT THEY ;JUST REPORT: Every coli cerran shall keep a diary or bo k, in
<br />which shall be noted by him for report at tale station house; 1st,: doors or entrances
<br />of all stores, or business douses that he may find open during the ni`ht time; 2nd, ai 1
<br />nuisances on hi., beat that should be removed promptly; 3rd, All Violations of the City
<br />ordin;;nces, the names of offenders, witnesses, etc.,: 4th, All city electric lights not
<br />burning, length of time out if possible, and their locition. Nhich information they shall
<br />report daily in writin-; to the officer in ch_rge at the station house.
<br />SEC. 35. DUTY IN PLAIN CLOTHES. 1,ol icemen, when on duty � n plain clothes, are
<br />to made known to any person interfering with them in the execution of their duty, that
<br />they are poli cement: They must exercise their discretion as to the time off making
<br />such communication so as not to interfere with the object they have in view, so tIn t if
<br />assaulted or interferred tiwh, the assailant con not pleas ignorance of the Officer's
<br />real character.
<br />SEC. 36. MUST CALL FlitrIIrIE,N: Policemen on night duy shall call up, with the
<br />le�.st possible delay, all member:: of the fire department residing on or immediately
<br />adjoining their beats, who may have left their names and residences at the station house
<br />with the request to be called when there is an alarm.
<br />SEC. 37. REPORT VIOLATION OF REVENUE LAWS: They shall aid the Commissioner of
<br />Revenue, as far as possible, in detectin parties voilating the revenue l;:ws.
<br />SEC. 38 HOUES OF DUTY. The hours of active duty per day shall be such as
<br />may be fixed by the Council. The chief under the direction of the Mayor si.all fix
<br />the daily hours and location of duty of the members of t:ie police forte so as to rive
<br />the best police protection.
<br />SEC. 39, POLICE TO BE JNIF01.11ED, All reoualr Poli cement, incl tiding the Chief
<br />and Lieutenants .:hall wear what is knovn as a "Ppliceman Uniform" as presceibed by
<br />the.Oouncil and furnished by the City.
<br />SEC. 40. AOCOUNTABLE FOR EQUIPIA.,,NT. All equipment issued by the City to the
<br />Folice Department shall be charged to them, and each amber shall be held accountable
<br />for th sife return of whate,�er is furnished him.
<br />SES;. 41, INTEREST IN OUTSIDE BUSINESS. No member of the Police Department
<br />shall have any interest in any other outside business which may come in c onflice :,.-ith
<br />his duty as publi:; officer of the City.
<br />SEC. 42. USL OF ;-AIRROL .',AGON. The police force will use judgement and des-
<br />cretion in the use of the patrol wagon.
<br />SEC. 43. POLITICAL ACTIVITIES. Everyroliceman shall exercise the right of a
<br />citizen unquestioned at all elections, but no member of the police department shall
<br />take an active part therein, 6r in the political !advancement of any party, clique, com-
<br />bi na,t i on or i ndi vi dual .
