<br />must obey promptly all orders of the Chief, note every case of misconduct or neglect of

<br />SECTION 14. SHALL VISIT BLATS, The Lieutenants shall, if pmssible, See each
<br />man on his beat without calling, but should he not be able to f ind him, the calls'to
<br />gi en in the center and on each extremity of the beat, and if unable then to i ind theTan 1
<br />search of, he shall report to the Chief the name of the man and the cause of absences f
<br />ascertainable .
<br />SLC. 15. INS ,ECTION AT ROLL CALL. The Lieutenants at roll call, shall inspect
<br />each and every policeman, and be particuler in noting that the dress is clean and the badgE
<br />in the proper place; that they have their batons and pistols in proper order, and that
<br />they vre properly and sufficiently attired and fit, and report to the Chief.
<br />EC. 16. POLI C!i4N-- DUTIES. Each idember of the police force sifill devote
<br />his whole time and attention to the businesU of tine ,r.olice department, and although
<br />cettain hours are allotted to the respective members for the ordinary performance of
<br />duty, he must at all times be prepared to act immedi}ttely on notice that his services
<br />are required by the proper officer and cat the call of any -citizen,
<br />SEC. 17, ATTENDANCE AND OBEDIENCE OF ORDERS. Punctual attendance, prompt
<br />obedience of orders, and conformity to these rules and regulations, will be rigidly en-
<br />forced.
<br />SEC. 18, ABSENCE, No Member of the Police Force shall leave the City or be
<br />absent from duty without premi ssi on of the Chief,
<br />SEC. 19. SLEEPING ON HIS BLkl, OR OT -'k N::GLLCT OF DUTY. For sleeping on his
<br />beat, an;,� neglect of duty, or an, violation of these rules and regulation:,, the "'hief
<br />of Police may suspend from duty any subordinate until the offense can be reported to the
<br />City I4- nager, with the cause ancfacts on ti%,hich the suspicion is ordered. Such reports
<br />to be transmitted to the Council by the City :Manager.
<br />SEC. 20. DRESS ON DUTY, BADGE ETC. Every policeman, !►hen enterin- on duty,
<br />must be neat in person, having his badge, clothes and boots clean, and tris dress- in con-
<br />formity v) i th the rejulations.
<br />UEC. 21, PRESENTS, FEES ETC. iyo ,;ember of the police force shall ffeca. ve any
<br />present, fee or reward for his service as policeman, other than the regular salary, ex-
<br />cept by consent of the City Manager or Council. This prov'I cion shall not apply to re-

<br />SEC, 22. STOLEN PROPERTY, LCT. Property coming into possession of the police-
<br />men, supi�osed to be btolen or lost, shall be given to the officer in charge of the station
<br />house, acvompained by report to the Chief, stating all the circumstanc(is in connection
<br />therewith.
<br />SEC. 23. VIGIL .NCE. Every member of the police force must endeavor, by his
<br />constant vigilance, to prevent the perpetrbtion of crime within his beat; and if offenses
<br />against perons and property become frequent, occurrences along ?pis beat, they %ill be
<br />deemed sufficient proof of his negligence and inefficiency to warrant a suspension or
<br />dismissal,
<br />SEC. 24, INSI ECTI ON OF DOORS WINDOWS ETC He must inspect every ;-art of
<br />beat during his tour of duty, and ca.refu ly eJ:amirie all doors and low windows of business
<br />rouses, and see that they are properly fastened.
<br />SEC. 25, AC�UAIN`l'ANCE WITH S`I'R,EETS, PE02ERTY AND PER.50NS. Every policeman
<br />must thoroughly acquaint himself with all street:-, alleys, courts and buildings within
<br />his beat; and so far as practicable, seek to recoginize all persons residing therein.
<br />SEC. 26. BAD CHARACTERS. He must strictly watch the conduct of .:ill persons
<br />of bad chf.ra.eter in such manner as it will not be evident to the:: that they are belnG
<br />watched, fixing in his mind such impres.lons as will enable him to recognize person
<br />whom he frequently meets in the streets at night, and to the utmost of leis power pTe"
<br />vent the commission of assaults, breaches of peace, and. other crimes about to be corn -
