strued as to effectuate its general purpose to make <br /> <br />uniform the laws of the State of Virginia, relat- <br /> <br />ing to motor vehicles and their operation. If any <br /> <br />part or parts, sections, sub -sections, sentence, <br /> <br />clause or phrase of this ordinance is for any rea- <br /> <br />son declared to be unconstitutional, such decision <br /> <br />shall not affect the validity of the remaining por- <br /> <br />tions of this ordinance. <br /> <br />Section 74. Short Title.—This ordinance may <br /> <br />be cited as the Uniform Traffic Ordinance. <br /> <br />II. REPEAL--That all ordinances and parts <br /> <br />of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this <br /> <br />ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed. <br /> <br />III. HADEN <br />Clerk of Council <br />PARKING VEHICLES ON THE STREETS <br />OF THE CITY <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the City <br /> <br />of Charlottesville as follows: <br /> <br />1. Except as authorized in this ordinance no <br /> <br />vehicle shall be parked except parallel with and <br /> <br />close to the right hand curb and in no instance <br /> <br />shall such vehicles be parked less than four feet <br /> <br />apart, nor with the rear wheels further than six <br /> <br />inches from the curb. <br /> <br />2. No vehicle shall be parked on Main Street <br /> <br />from Seventh Street East to Preston Ave., be- <br /> <br />tween 7 A. M. and 7 P. M. for a period of more <br /> <br />than thirty minutes. <br /> <br />3. No vehicle shall be parked on any of the <br /> <br />streets of the City for a period of more than one <br /> <br />hour between twelve o'clock midnight and six <br /> <br />A. M. <br /> <br />4. Parking is permitted only on the designated <br /> <br />side of the following streets: <br /> <br />On the East side of Rugby Road from Main <br /> <br />Street to a point opposite the entrance to Way- <br /> <br />side Place; on the North side of Linden Ave., <br /> <br />from Rugby Road to the northern end of Univer- <br /> <br />sity Way; and on the East side of University <br /> <br />Way. <br /> <br />5. Diagonal parking may be permitted by the <br /> <br />police department as follows: <br /> <br />On the South side of Water Street; on Third <br /> <br />Street East between Water Street and Market <br /> <br />Street; on Market Street West of Seventh Street, <br /> <br />r.ast: and on West Main Street between Fifteenth <br /> <br />Street and Elliewood Avenue. <br /> <br />Every person convicted of violation of this or- <br /> <br />dinance shall for the first conviction thereon be <br /> <br />punished by a fine of not less than $2.50; for a <br /> <br />second such conviction within one year such per- <br /> <br />son shall be punished by a fine of not less than <br /> <br />$5.00. Upon a third or subsequent conviction <br /> <br />within one year such person shall be punished by <br /> <br />a fine of not less than $10.00. <br /> <br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in so far <br /> <br />as the same are in conflict herewith are hereby <br /> <br />repealed. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council July 19, 1926 <br />A Copy Teste : <br />H. Expept as autliorized in this ordinance no vehicle shall be parked except <br /> <br />paralled with and close to the richt rand cubb on two way streets and the left hand curb on <br /> <br />one way street and in no instance shall such vehicles be parked less than four feet apart, <br /> <br />nor with the near wheels further than six inches from the curb. <br /> <br />2. No vehicle shall be parked on Main Street from Seventh Street East to <br /> <br />Preston Ave., between 7 A. 11. and 7 P. M. for a period of more than thirty minutes <br /> <br />3.
