AN ORDINANCE ADDING A NEW SECTION TO THE LICENSE TAX ORDINANCE FOR <br /> <br />THE YEAR 1937, DESIGNATED AND ENTITLED "30 (1) BROKERS IN OPTIONS <br /> <br />OR FUTURES". <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that a new <br /> <br />section be added to the License Tax Ordinance for the year 1937, entitled "30 (1) <br /> <br />Brokers in Options or Futures", which shall read as follows: <br /> <br />30 (1) BROKERS IN OPTIONS OR FUTURES. <br /> <br />Any person, firm or corporation engaged in buying and selling, <br /> <br />or who receives orders to buy or sell, cotton, grain, provisions, <br /> <br />or other commodities, shall be deemed to be a broker dealing in <br /> <br />options and futures. Every broker dealing in options or futures <br /> <br />or in buying or selling options or futures shall pay the sum of <br /> <br />$100.00 (One Hundred Dollars) for the privilege of transacting such <br /> <br />business. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage, <br /> <br />and all ordinances, or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council May 17, 1937. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. Huff, <br /> <br />and Mr. Twyman. <br /> <br />Noes: None. <br /> <br />Clerk Signature <br />President Signature <br /> <br />ANNUAL TAX LEVY IMPOSING TAXES ON PERSONS AND PROPERTY FOR THE PAYMENT <br /> <br />OF INTEREST ON THE CITY DEBT, FOR CREATING A SINKING FUND THEREFOR, <br /> <br />FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT AND CITY SCHOOLS, AND <br /> <br />FOR OTHER PURPOSES. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that for the year <br /> <br />beginning on the first day of January, 1937, and ending the thirty-first day of December, <br /> <br />1937, and each year thereafter while this ordinance is in force, the taxes on persons <br /> <br />and property for local purposes shall be as follows: <br /> <br />GENERAL LEVY: <br /> <br />1. Land, Lots and Buildings. <br /> <br />On tracts of land and lots and improvements thereon, not exempt from taxation, <br /> <br />there shall be a tax of $1.03 (one dollar and three cents) on every $100.00 assessed <br /> <br />value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the City government and to <br /> <br />pay the interest and sinking fund on the City debt other than schools and there <br /> <br />shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed value of $0.21 (twenty- <br /> <br />one cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund on school bonds and $0.76 (seventy- <br /> <br />six cents) for the maintenance and operating of the City schools. <br /> <br />2. Tangible Personal Property. <br /> <br />Upon all tangible personal property as defined by State Tax Law, not exempt <br /> <br />from taxation, there shall be a tax of $1.03 (one dollar and three cents) on every <br /> <br />$100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the City <br /> <br />government and to pay the interest and sinking fund on the City debt other than <br /> <br />schools, and there shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed <br /> <br />value thereof of $0.21 (twenty-one cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund <br /> <br />on the school bonds and $0.76 (seventy-six cents) for the maintenance and opera- <br /> <br />ting of the City schools. <br /> <br />3. Other Property. <br /> <br />Upon any tangible personal property not included in the foregoing, which is <br /> <br />not exempt from local taxation, the tax shall be $1.03 (one dollar and three cents) <br /> <br />on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the <br /> <br />City government and to pay the interest and sinking fund on the City Debt other <br /> <br />than schools, and there shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed <br /> <br />value thereof of $0.21 (twenty-one cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund <br /> <br />on the school bonds and $0.76 (seventy-six cents) for the maintenance and operating <br /> <br />of the City schools. <br /> <br />All ordinance or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council June 7, 1937. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Mr. Huff, & Mr. Jessup. <br /> <br />Noes: None. <br /> <br />Clerk Signature <br />President Signature
