I <br />AIC ORDINANCE ADDING A NEW SECTION TO THE LICEN"E TAX ORDINANCE FOR <br />THE YEAR 1937, DESIGNATED AND ENTITLED "30 (1) BROKERS IN OPTIONS <br />OR FUTURES". <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that a new <br />section be added to the License Tax Ordinance for the year 1937, entitled "30 (1) <br />Brokers in Options or Futures", which shall read as follows: <br />30 (1) BROKERS IN OPTIONS OR FUTURES. <br />Any person, firm or corporation engaged in buying and selling, <br />or who receives orders to buy or sell, cotton, grain, provisions, <br />or other commodities, shall be deemed to be a broker dealing in <br />options and fugures. Every broker dealing in options or futures <br />or in buying or selling options or futures shall pay the sum of <br />$100.00 (One Hundred Dollars) for the privilege of transacting such <br />business. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage, <br />and all ordinances, or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council May 17, 1937. <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. Huff, <br />and Mr. Twyman. <br />Noes: No <br />Clerk resi e t <br />ANNUAL TAX LEVY IMPOSING TAXES ON PERSONS AND PROPERTY FOR THE PAYMENT <br />OF INTEREST ON THE CITY DEBT, FOR CREATING A SIPIKING FUND THEREFOR, <br />FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT AND CITY SCHOOLS, AND <br />FOR OTHER PURPOSES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that for the year <br />beginning on the first day of January, 1937, and ending the thirty-first day of December, <br />1937, and each year thereafter while this ordinance is in force, the taxes on persons. <br />and property for local purposes shall be as follows: , <br />GFNERAL LEVY: <br />1. Land, Lots and Buildings. <br />On tracts of land and lots and improvements thereon, not exempt from taxation, <br />there shall be a tax of $1.03 (one dollar and three cents) on every T,100.00 assessed <br />value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the City government and to <br />pay the interest and sinking fund on the City debt other than schools and there <br />shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed value of 440.21 (twenty- <br />one cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund on school bonds and X0.76 (seventy- <br />six cents) for the mAintenance:and operating of the City schools. <br />2. Tangible Personal Property. <br />Upon all tangible personal property as defined by State Tax Law, not exempt <br />from taxation, there shall be a tax of $1.03 (one dollar and three cents) on every <br />$100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the City <br />government and to pay the interest and sinking fund on the City debt other than <br />schools, and there shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed <br />value thereof of $0.21 (twenty-one cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund <br />on the school bonds and $0.76 (seventy-six cents) for the maintenance and opera- <br />ting of the City schools. <br />3. <br />Other Property. <br />Upon any tangible <br />personal property not included in the foregoing, which is <br />not <br />exempt from local taxation, <br />the tax shall be $1.03 (one dollar and three cents) <br />on <br />every 0100.00 assessed <br />value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of <br />the <br />City government and <br />to pair the interest and sinking fund on the City Debt other <br />than schools, and there <br />shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessp.d <br />value <br />thereof of $0.21 <br />(tv.,enty-one cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund <br />on <br />the school bonds and <br />10.76 (seventy-six cents) for the maintenance and operating <br />of <br />the City schools. <br />■ <br />till ordinance or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council June 7. 1937. <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Mr. Huff, & Mr. Jessup. <br />Noes: None. <br />resident <br />
