1 <br />1 <br />L <br />from time to time such additional reports and information as may be required <br />by the Council or the Director of Public Welfare. <br />SEC. 470. BURIAL OF PAUPERS. <br />Any person dying in the City may be buried at the expense of the City, <br />upon an order from the Superintendent of Public Welfare, when, in the opinion <br />of the said Superintendent the estate of the deceased is not sufficient to pay <br />the expenses of said burial. Said burial shall in all cases be in the pauper <br />section of the cemetery. The expense incurred in said burial shall be charged <br />against the appropriation for public welfare. <br />SEC. 471. AUDIT AND INVENTORY - REPORTS. <br />The City Auditor shall annually, or as often as he may deem necessary, <br />audit the accounts and inventory the property in the custody of the Superintendent <br />of Public Welfare and shall require the person receiving and expending the funds <br />for Public Welfare to keep account of all receipts and purchases in such manner <br />as the City Auditor may prescribe and a report of said annual audit and inventory <br />shall be made to the Council not later than the thirtieth day of September in <br />each year. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage, and <br />all ordinances in conflict therewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council June 6, 1938 <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Mr. Huff, and Mr. <br />Jessup. <br />Noes: None. -) <br />Prdsident <br />ANNUAL TAX LEVY IMPOSING TAXES ON PERSONS AND PROPERTY FOR THE <br />PAYMENT OF INTEREST 0I1 THE CITY DEBT, FOR CREATING A SINKING FUND <br />THEREFOR, FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT AND CITY SCHOOLS, <br />AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that for the year <br />beginning on the first day of January, 1938, and ending the thirty-first day of <br />December, 1938, and each year thereafter while this ordinance is in force, the taxes <br />on persons and property for local purposes shall be as follows: <br />GENERAL LEVY: <br />1. Land, Lots and Buildings. <br />On tracts of land and lots and improvements thereon, not exempt from <br />taxation, there shall be a tax of $1.03 (one dollar and three cents) on every <br />X100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the City <br />government and to pay the interest and sinking fund on the City debt other than <br />schools, and there shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed <br />value of A0.21 (twenty-one cents) to pay ti -,e interest and sinking fund on school <br />bonds and $60.76 (seventy-six cents) for the maintenance and operating of the <br />City schools. <br />2. Tangible Personal Property. <br />Upon all tangible personal property as defined by State Tax Law, not exempt <br />from taxation, there shall be a tax of $1.03 (One dollar and three cents) on every <br />$6100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the City <br />government and to pay the interest and sinking fund on the City debt, other than <br />schools, and there shall be levied an additional tax on every '.100.00 assessed <br />value thereof of $0.21 (twenty-one cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund on <br />the school bonds and "-0.76 (seventy-six cents) for the maintenance and operating <br />of the City schools. <br />3. Other Property. <br />Upon any tangible personal property not included in the foregoing, which is <br />not exempt from local taxation, the tax shall be °'1.03 (one dollar and three cents) <br />on every X100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the <br />City government and to pay the interest and sinking fund on the City debt other <br />than schools, and there shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed <br />value thereof of $0.21 (tiNenty-one cents) toay the interest and sinking fund on <br />the school bonds and X0.76 (seventy-six cents for the maintenance and operating of <br />the City schools. <br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council June 27, 1938 <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Mr. Huff, and Mr. Jessup. <br />Noes: None,4,� _ <br />, Preslaen <br />
