236 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 36 <br />ENTITLED "CARNIVALS" OF THE ANNUAL LICENSE TAX ORDINANCE <br />ADOPTED MARCH 20, 1939, AND SPREAD IN ORDINANCE BOOK 2, <br />PAGES 211 - 219. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 36 <br />entitled "Carnivals" of the License Tax Ordinance for the year 1939 adopted March 20, <br />1939, be amended and reenacted so as to read as follows: <br />36. Carnivals. <br />On every carnival, two hundred and fifty dollars ($250) per day. A <br />carnival shall mean an aggregation of shows, amusements concessions, <br />eating places and riding devices, or any of them operating together on one <br />lot or street, or on contiguous lots or streets, moving from place to <br />place, whether the same are owned and actually operated by separate persons, <br />firms, corporations or not. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after May 25, 1939, <br />and on and after said date all ordinances or parts of -ordinances in conflict <br />herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council May 15, 1939. <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. <br />Huff, Mr. Jessup, and Mr. Peyton. <br />Noes: None <br />Clerk V Pre di de6t <br />AN ORDINANCE ENACTING A NEW SECTION TO THE CITY CODE OF 1932, <br />DESIGNATED "SECTION 372 (1), VACANT LOTS - CUTTING VTEDS AND FOREIGN <br />GROWTH". - <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that a new <br />section be enacted and added to the City Code of 1932, which shall read as follows: <br />Section 372 (1) VACANT LOTS - CUTTING WEEDS AND FOREIGN GROWTH. <br />All owners of vacant properties situated in the City of Charlottes- <br />ville, Virginia, shall be and they are hereby required to cut all weeds <br />and other foreign growth growing on said properties within 100 feet of any <br />residence and to maintain said properties in a sightly condition. In the <br />event any such owner fails or refuses to cut such weeds and other foreign <br />growth, the same can be done by the City of Charlottesville and the expenses <br />incidental to the cutting of such greeds and other foreign growth shall be <br />chargeable to and paid by the owner of the property and shall be collected <br />as other taxes and levies are collected. <br />This ordinance shall be in force from its passage and all ordinances or parts <br />of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Cl erk <br />Adopted by the Council June 5, 1939• <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Ir. Huff, <br />and Mr. Peyton. <br />Noes: Non <br />Presi nt <br />ANNUAL TAX LEVY IMPOSING TAXES ON PERSONS AND PROPERTY FOR THE PAYMENT OF <br />INTEREST ON THE CITY DEBT, FOR CREATING A SINKING FUND TTTEREFOR, FOR THE <br />SUPPORT OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT AND CITY SCHOOLS, AND FOR OTHER. PURPOSES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, that for the year <br />beginning on the first day of January, 1939, and ending the thirty-first day of <br />December, 1939, and each year thereafter while this ordinance is in force, the <br />taxes on persons and property within the City for local purposes shall be as <br />follows: <br />A.
