210 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SUB -SECTION (44) OF <br />OF SECTION 494 (BUILDING CODE) OF THE CITY CODE OF <br />1932, ENTITLED "SAFETY OF DESIGN". <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Sub -Section <br />(44) of Section 494 of the City Code of 1932, entitled "Safety of Design", be and <br />the same hereby is amended and reenacted so as to read as follows: <br />SEC. 494 (44) (A). SAFETY OF DESIGN. <br />All parts of every building or structure shall be designed to <br />safely carry the loads to be imposed thereon, and shall in all other <br />respects conform to good engineering practice. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage, <br />and all Ordinances, or parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith, are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council January 16, 1939. <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. Huff, <br />Mr. Jessup, and Mr. Peyton. <br />Noes: None. <br />Clerk V P e ident <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 138 <br />OF THE CITY CODE OF 1932 ENTITLED "WARDS - NAMES AND <br />BOUNDARIES". <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 138 <br />of the City Code of 1932, entitled "Wards - Names and Boundaries" be amended and re- ' <br />enacted so as to read as follows: <br />SEC. 138 (A). WARDS - NAMES AND BOUNDARIES. <br />The territory within the corporate limits of the City shall be divided into <br />four wards, whose boundaries shall be as follows: <br />The First Ward shall embrace all territory lying east of the following line: <br />Beginning.at the interesection of the center line of Dain and Fifth Streets East, <br />thence Southwardly along the center line of Fifth Street East and with said line <br />projected in the same course to the Southern corporate limits; thence back to the <br />aforesaid peginning point and along the center line of Main Street East to its <br />intersection with the center line of Fourth Street, East; thence northwardly <br />along the center line of Fourth Street, N. E., and with said line projected in <br />the same course to the Northern corporate limits. <br />The Second Ward shall embrace all the territory lying north of the center line <br />of Main Street and West of the First Ward as defined above and East and North of the <br />following line: Beginning at the intersection of the centerlines of Main Street <br />and Tenth Street, N. W., thence with the center line of Tenth Street, N. W., and with <br />said line projected in a Northerly direction to the corporate limits as they existed <br />prior to January 1st, 1939; thence Westwardly with said old corporate line to the <br />center line of Rugby Road; thence Northwardly with the center line of Rugby Road to <br />the Barracks Road, thence with the center line of Barriteks Road to the present City <br />Limits. <br />The Third Ward shall embrace all territory lying South of Main Street and West <br />of the First Ward defined above, and East and South of a line extending from the <br />center line of Main Street Southwardly along the center of Ninth Street to its <br />intersection with the center line of the main line of the Southern Railroad, thence <br />with said Railroad center line Westwardly to the corporate limits. <br />The Fourth Ward shall embrace all the territory in the western part of said <br />corporate limits which is not embraced within the boundaries of the Second Ward and <br />the Third Ward as above defined. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage, and <br />all Ordinances or parts thereof in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council March 16, 1939 <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. Jessup, <br />and Mr. Peyton. <br />Noes: None. <br />
