A. General Levy on all persons and property within the boundaries <br /> <br />of the City of Charlottesville as they existed prior to January 1, 1939: <br /> <br />1. Land, Lots and Buildings. <br /> <br />On tracts of land and lots and improvements thereon, not exempt <br /> <br />from taxation, there shall be a tax of $0.97 (ninety-seven cents) on <br /> <br />every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating <br /> <br />expenses of the City Government and to pay the interest and sinking fund <br /> <br />on the City debt other than schools, and there shall be levied an <br /> <br />additional tax on every $100.00 assessed value of $0.29 (twenty-nine <br /> <br />cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund on school bonds and $0.84 <br /> <br />(eighty-four cents) for the maintenance and operating of the City Schools. <br /> <br />2. Tangible Personal Property. <br /> <br />Upon all tangible personal property as defined by State Tax Law, <br /> <br />not exempt from taxation, there shall be a tax of $0.97 (ninety-seven <br /> <br />cents) on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general <br /> <br />operating expenses of the City government and to pay the interest and <br /> <br />sinking fund on the City debt, other than schools, and there shall be <br /> <br />levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed value thereof of <br /> <br />$0.29 (twenty-nine cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund on the <br /> <br />school bonds and $0.84 (eighty-four cents) for the maintenance and <br /> <br />operating of the City schools. <br /> <br />3. Other Property. <br /> <br />Upon any tangible personal property not included in the foregoing, <br /> <br />which is not exempt from local taxation, the tax shall be $0.97 (ninety- <br /> <br />seven cents) on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general <br /> <br />operating expenses of the City government and to pay the interest and <br /> <br />sinking fund on the City debt other than schools, and there shall be <br /> <br />levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed value thereof of <br /> <br />$0.29 (twenty-nine cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund on the <br /> <br />school bonds and $0.84 (eighty-four cents) for the maintenance and <br /> <br />operating of the City Schools. <br /> <br />B. General Levy on all persons and property within boundaries of the <br /> <br />territory annexed to the City of Charlottesville by an order entered <br /> <br />in the Circuit Court of Albemarle County, Virginia, on November 11, 1938, <br /> <br />and spread in Law Order Book 390; excepting, however, the territory <br /> <br />mentioned in "C" below: <br /> <br />1. Land, Lots and Buildings. <br /> <br />On tracts of land and lots and improvements thereon, not exempt <br /> <br />from taxation, there shall be a tax of $1.95 (one dollar and ninety-five <br /> <br />cents) on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general <br /> <br />operating expenses of the City Government. <br /> <br />2. Tangible Personal Property. <br /> <br />Upon all tangible personal property as defined by State Tax Law, <br /> <br />not exempt from taxation, there shall be a tax of $1.95 (one dollar and <br /> <br />ninety-five cents) on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the <br /> <br />general operating expenses of the City government. <br /> <br />3. Other Property. <br /> <br />Upon any tangible personal property not included in the foregoing, <br /> <br />which is not exempt from local taxation, the tax shall be $1.95 (one <br /> <br />dollar and ninety-five cents) on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to <br /> <br />pay the general operating expenses of the City government. <br /> <br />C. General Levy on all persons and property in that portion of the Charlottes- <br /> <br />ville Woolen Mills Sanitary District which is within the boundaries of the <br /> <br />territory annexed to the City of Charlottesville as aforesaid: <br /> <br />1. Land, Lots and Buildings. <br /> <br />On tracts of land and lots and improvements thereon, not exempt from <br /> <br />taxation, there shall be a tax of $2.45 (two dollars and forty-five cents) <br /> <br />on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating <br /> <br />expenses of the City Government. <br /> <br />2. Tangible Personal Property. <br /> <br />Upon all tangible personal property as defined by State Tax Law, not <br /> <br />exempt from taxation, there shall be a tax of $2.45 (two dollars and forty- <br /> <br />five cents) on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general <br /> <br />operating expenses of the City Government. <br /> <br />3. Other Property. <br /> <br />Upon any tangible personal property not included in the foregoing, <br /> <br />which is not exempt from local taxation, the tax shall be $2.45 (two dollars <br /> <br />and forty-five cents) on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the <br /> <br />general operating expenses of the City government. <br /> <br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council May 19, 1941. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. Huff, <br /> <br />Mr. Nash, and Mr. Peyton. <br /> <br />Noes: None. <br /> <br />Clerk Signature <br /> <br />President Signature
