Said chief shall deliver to his successor in office records per- <br />taining to the Fire Department which may be in his control. <br />For the purpose of which the Department exists, the chief shall have <br />full supervision of all apparatus pertaining to the Fire Department. <br />(b) The chief of the Fire Company shall have charge of the fire house, <br />and the employees of the fire department shall be under his immediate super- <br />vision, and it shall be his duty to see that the apparatus is kept in good <br />condition and ready at any and all times to respond to a call and properly <br />cared for at and after returning from a fire; that the hose is properly dried <br />out; that the house is properly cared for; and perform such other duties as <br />may be necessary to keep the fire house and apparatus in good condition. <br />(c) Any charges preferred in writing against a member of the Fire Company <br />for nonperformance of duty shall be brought before the Fire Company for action <br />at its next meeting not less than ten nays after such charges are preferred; the <br />action of the Fire Company in the premises must be referred to the Council at <br />its next regular meeting for confirmation or further investigation or proceedings <br />therein. In the event of failure to refer the decision of the Company as above <br />provided, the Council may proceed with the investigation de novo. <br />This ordinance shall be in full foce and effect from the date of its passage, and <br />all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council, February 16, 1942. <br />Ayes: Dr. Haden, Mr. Huff, Mr. Nash, and <br />Mr. Peyton. <br />Noes: None. (Mr. Gleason absent) <br />es <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 127 OF <br />THE CITY CODE OF 1932, ENTITLED "APPOINTMENT - TERM - <br />COMPENSATION". <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 127 <br />of the City Code of 1932 entitled "Appointment - Term - Compensation", be and the <br />same is hereby amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows: <br />SEC. 127 - Appointment - term - compensation. <br />There shall be appointed by the City Manager, a City Engineer, a Building <br />Inspector, a Plumbing Inspector, a City Electrician, and a Chief of the Fire <br />Department, subject to the approval of the Council. <br />There may be appointed by the City Manager, with the apy:roval of the <br />Council, a Superintendent of the Gas Department, a Superintendent of the Rater <br />and Seger Department, a Superintendent of the Public Service Department, a <br />Superintendent of Parks and Cemeteries, and such other officials and assistants <br />as he may consider necessary for the proper conduct of the affairs of the City <br />under his management and for which he is responsible. One or more of such <br />positions may be held and exercised by the same person. These so appointed <br />shall hold office at the will of the City Manager. <br />The City Manager may, in order to promote the efficient operation of the <br />affairs of the City under his management and control, create new departments, <br />and consolidate or abolish existing departments. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage, <br />and all ordinance or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council February 16, 1942 <br />Ayes: Dr. Haden, Mr. Huff, Mr. Nash, and Mr. Peyton. <br />Notes: None. Keeping Hogs in the City - Permits - Conditions and Revocation <br />of Permits. <br />No hogs shall be kept within the City limits except for immediate shipment <br />or slaughter unless a permit therefor has been issued by the Chief of Police. <br />A permit shall be issued only upon the following conditions: <br />
