<br />Sec. 6. Burial permits.
<br />No interment of the dead body of any human being, or dis-
<br />position thereof in any tomb, vault or cemetery, shall be made
<br />within the city without a permit granted therefor by the registrar,
<br />nor otherwise than in accordance therewith, and no permit shall
<br />be issued by the said registrar for burial in private or iu places
<br />other than those provided and recognized as public cemeteries; and
<br />no sexton, undertaker or other person shall assist in, assent to, or
<br />allow such interment for which such permit has not been given
<br />authorizing the same, and it shall be the duty of every person hav-
<br />ing such permit to preserve and return the same to the registrar.
<br />Any person violating this section shall be fined not less than five
<br />dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars. (Id., § 420.)

<br />Sec. 7. Permit for removal of dead bodies beyond city
<br />limits.
<br />No undertaker or other person shall remove the body of any
<br />person who has died within the city limits to any place beyond
<br />the city limits for the purpose of burial, without first procuring
<br />a permit to do so from the local registrar, under a penalty of not
<br />less than five dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars for each
<br />offense. (Id., § 421.)

<br />Sec. 8. Retaining or exposing dead bodies.
<br />No person shall retain or expose, or allow to be retained or ex-
<br />posed; the dead body of any human being to the peril or prejudice
<br />of the life or health of any person, under a penalty of not less than
<br />five dollars nor more than fifteen dollars. (Id., § 422.)

<br />fuses to furnish the certificate required, it shall be the duty of
<br />any undertaker who may have charge of the burial, and the right
<br />of any other person acquainted with the facts of the case, to re-
<br />port the same to the health officer, who shall thereupon be au-
<br />thorized to give the required certificate, provided it be not a case
<br />requiring the attendance of the coroner. (Id., § 423.)

<br />Sec. 1. Definitions.
<br />For the purpose of this chapter the following definitions, terms
<br />and their application shall be used, unless otherwise expressly
<br />stated :
<br />Alley. Any right of way or easement used or laid out as a
<br />means of access to or egress from two or more properties, whether
<br />the same be open or not.
<br />Areaway. An open sub -surface space adjacent to a building
<br />for lighting purpose or ventilating of basements.
<br />Attic. A space situated wholly or partially within the roof.
<br />An attic, when it is used for business purposes or living quarters,
<br />shall be considered a story.
<br />Basement. The lower part of a building the floor of which is
<br />below the grade of the lot or street.
<br />Sub -basement. That portion of a building next below the base-
<br />ment.
<br />Bay window. A projection beyond the wall of a building,
<br />pierced by one or more window openings, the entire weight of
<br />which is carried by the wall.
<br />Beam. A piece of timber, iron, concrete, stone or other mate-
<br />rial placed horizontally, or Clearly so, to support a load over a space
<br />below.
<br />Building. For purposes relative to this chapter all buildings
<br />herein referred to shall be within either of the following classes,
<br />to -wit:
<br />(1) Building.
<br />(2) Altered building.
<br />Building. Any structure affording shelter, whether erected,
<br />constructed, renovated or remodeled.
<br />Altered Building. Any building (other than as above de-
<br />fined) changed either in use or occupancy, or by physical variation
<br />in construction, or otherwise, not to exceed twenty-five per cent
<br />of the assessed valuation of said building.
