11. that they confer with the local National Guard Unit and if they had no objection, to grant the use of the rooms to the Naval Reserve. • On motion by Mr. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Nash, the following report was unanimously adopted: May 19, 19J.7 0 To the Members of the City Council Charlottesville, Virginia Gentlemen: Report re: I have investigated the request of Mrs. Bullock for Sewer connection a sewer line on Chestnut Street and I wish to advise that on Chestnut St. I have talked to Mr. McClanahan who owns the lot below her and he has agreed to let her connect to a sewer line which was put on the lot for a sawmill, which was recently removed therefrom, and I am advising Mrs. Bullock to this effect. Watson, seconded by Mr. Nash, the following report was unanimously adopted, and the City Manager was instructed to carry out the recommendations just as soon as is practicable: May 16, 19J+7 To the Members of the City Council Charlottesville, Virginia Gentlemen: Mr. L. H. Kempp Jr., from State Fire Marshall Office, the Fire Chief and City Manager met at the gas plant and after thoroughly examining the plant the following recommendations are hereby submitted: Report re: 1. That the Superintendent of the gas plant be instructed to see Fire Inspection that water be kept at all times in the trough around the gas at Gas Plant holders. 2. All dried weeds, grass and other inflammable rubbish be kept from around all tanks. 11 That all oil or tar, or asphalt drained on ground be covered with dirt or sand. J+. That all waste oil or tar in plant be removed. 5. That the City incinerator be removed from the City Yard which is in a congested area and one which contains much inflammable material and supplies. We believe that with the baffle walls which are now installed in the incinerator, the fire hazard has been largely abated from this plant. 6. That no smoking or open flames be allowed in or about the storage tanks. 7. That Gas Service Bureau be instructed to dispose of all packing or crates and other inflammable material from unpacking new appliances. g. We recommend that necessary funds be appropriated to purchase First Aid fire fighting equipment which should then be housed at the gas plant and Fire Department be requested to instruct Gas plant employees in necessary use of same.
