Ordinance- QUIRED TO BE FIREPROOF' and ?FIRE ESCAPES'", which was offered at the last <br />"Buildings <br />Required to be regular meeting, was again read and adopted by the following recorded vote: <br />Fireproof'? and <br />"Fire Escapes" Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Nash, and Mr. Watson. Noes: None. (Full • <br />text of this ordinance will be found recorded in Ordinance Book 3, page 17-18). <br />Dog Fund On motion by Mr. Watson, seconded by Mr. N ash, a bill against the Dog Fund <br />in amount of $12.60 was approved for payment. <br />On motion by Mr. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Nash, the following resolution was <br />unanimously adopted: <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that <br />Belt - Henry E. Belt, heretofore appointed as Special Attorney for the collection <br />Bond <br />of delinquent taxes due the City of Charlottesville, give bond conditioned <br />in accordance with the statute for such case made and provided in the sum <br />of $5,000.00 with corporate security. <br />Thorsey On motion by Mr. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Watson, an application from Frank <br />request , <br />denied Thorsey requesting permission to operate a golf driving range in McIntire Park <br />was unanimously refused. <br />The Mayor advised that some misunderstanding had arisen in regard to the <br />City furnishing the C&O Railway Company with water. A motion by Mr. Gleason, <br />C&O - seconded by Mr. Nash, that the resolution adopted by the Council on March 3, 1947 <br />Water <br />and the letter written by the Mayor as a result of said resolution be reaffirmed, <br />was unanimously adopted. <br />On motion the meeting adjourned. <br />i <br />i <br />C1 President <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER, MAY 19, 1947 <br />The Council met in regular session on this date with the following members <br />present: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Nash, and Mr. Watson. <br />Minutes of the meeting of May 5, 1947 were read and approved. <br />Mr. R. S. Jennings, Superintendent of Schools, addressed the Council and <br />Joint presented a resolution from the School Board requesting that the City authorize <br />Colored <br />High the School Board to enter into a joint contract with the County School Board <br />School <br />to employ an architect to prepare plans for the new joint colored high school <br />building. On motion by Mr. Watson, seconded by Mr. Gleason, this matter was <br />carried over for consideration. 0 <br />On motion by Mr. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Watson, county water applications <br />County Vater <br />of Mr. J. R. Kirkoff on Monticello Mountain, and the Charlottesville Livestock <br />Connections <br />Market, Inc., on Moore?s k -reek, were referred to the City Manager for investiga- <br />tion and report. <br />County Vater <br />On motion by Mr. Glea.son, seconded by Mr. Watson, county water connections <br />Connections <br />were granted to C. L. Hall on Locust Avenue and Pearl A. Hurtt in the Maury <br />property. <br />A petition requesting that something be done at once to remedy dust from <br />Dust-McGuffey <br />the McGuffey School playground and beck's Hill was presented. The City Manager <br />School & Beck's <br />Hill <br />advised that calcium chloride had already been placed on the property in question <br />and in his opinion this should remedy the complaint. <br />A request from the Naval Reserve to use the rooms in the new Armory formerly <br />Naval Reserve- <br />used by the Draft Board was presented. On motion by 'ter. Watson, seconded by Mr. <br />Armory <br />Nash, this matter was referred to the Mayor and City Manager with the request <br />
