SIZE OF CHARLOTTESVILLE TO EMPLOY A CARD INDEX <br />SYSTEM FOR THE REGISTRATION OF VOTERS. <br />MR. S. A. JESSUP, PRESIDENT OF THE C & A BUS COMPANY, ADDRESSED <br />THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THAT THE BUS COMPANY BE PERMITTED TO MAKE <br />REQUEST RE: BUS FARE <br />TAKEN UNDER ADVISE- AN UPWARD ADJUSTMENT IN ITS FARE STRUCTURE. HE STATED THAT EFFORT <br />MENT. <br />HAD BEEN MADE TO MAINTAIN THE PRESENT FIVE -CENT (5,ox FARE, HOWEVER, <br />CONDITIONS MADE IT NECESSARY TO REQUEST PERMISSION TO INCREASE THE <br />FARE TO TEN CENTS (10id) OR TWO (2) TOKENS FOR FIFTEEN CENTS (15A�) TO <br />ENABLE THE BUS COMPANY TO OPERATE PROFITABLY. ON MOTION THIS MATTER <br />WAS TAKEN UNDER ADVISEMENT. <br />MR. DUANE T. SWANSON, VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE VIRGINIA TELEPHONE <br />AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY,APPEARED BEFORE THE COUNCIL AND PRESENTED <br />MATTER OF <br />VA. TEL. & TEL. CO. SURETY BOND IN THE SUM OF ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00) EXECUTED <br />FRANCHISE CARRIED <br />OVER. BY THE VIRGINIA TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY AS PRINCIPAL, TOGETHER <br />WITH LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE OF TELEPHONE FRANCHISE FOR CHARLOTTESVILLE. <br />MR. SWANSON REQUESTED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL ACCEPT AND APPROVE THE <br />BOND AND BY APPROPRIATE ACTION INDICATE THAT THE CONDITIONS REQUIRED <br />BY THE TERMS OF THE FRANCHISE ORDINANCE HAVE BEEN FULFILLED. ON <br />MOTION THIS MATTER WAS CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MEETING. <br />MR. GEORGE GILMER, ATTORNEY, REPRESENTING MR. H. G. CLARKE, <br />ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND ASKED THAT STEPS BE TAKEN TO REMOVE A <br />MATTER OF STABLE STABLE ON MAURY AVENUE BELONGING TO MR. FRED QUARLES, JR. HE STATED <br />ON P,AAURY AVE. <br />PRESENTED THAT HE BELIEVED THIS BUILDING TO BE IN VIOLATION OF THE ZONING <br />ORDINANCE IN SO FAR AS THIS PARTICULAR LOT IS CONCERNED. AFTER <br />CONSIDERABLE DISCUSSION AND ON MOTICN BY MR. HADEN, SECONDED BY MR. <br />HAMM, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED BY THE FOLLOWING RECORDED <br />VOTE: AYES: MR. ADAMS, MR. BARR, MR. HADEN, MR. HAMM AND MR. TEBELL. <br />NOES: NONE. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT THE CITY ATTORNEY BE AND HE IS <br />RESOLUTION RE: <br />REMOVAL OF STABLE HEREBY AUTHORIZED AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE SUCH LEGAL <br />ACTION AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE STABLE BELONGING <br />TO MR. FRED QUARLES, JR. ON MAURY AVENUE. <br />A COMMUNICATION FROM THE W. D. HADEN ESTATE WITH REFERENCE <br />TO THE UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A PIECE OF PROPERTY LOCATED ON COMMERCE <br />MATTER OF UNAUTHORIZED <br />USE OF PROP. OF W. D. STREET BY THE PUBLIC WAS PRESENTED. MR. HADEN (COUNCILMAN) STATED <br />HADEN ESTATE REFERRED <br />TO POLICE DEPT. THAT HE HAD BEEN INFORMED THAT THE PUBLIC WAS USING THE PROPERTY AS <br />A DUMPING GROUND AND AS A RESULT HAD CREATED A CONDITION WHICH IS <br />LOOKED UPON WITH DISFAVOR BY THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT. ON MOTION THIS <br />MATTER WAS REFERRED TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. <br />ON MOTION THE FOLLOWING COMMUNICATION WAS ORDERED SPREAD IN THE <br />MINUTES OF THIS MEETING: <br />JANUARY 169, 1950 <br />LYTTELTON WADDELL, ESQ. , <br />CITY ATTORNEY, <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA. <br />DEAR SIR: <br />CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA, SCHOOL I NIPRCVEMENT <br />BONDS - SERIES OF 19509, $9501,000, <br />AT THE REQUEST OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />VIRGINIA, WE HAVE EXAMINED INTO THE VALIDITY OF AN ISSUE OF <br />
