BARRY THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br />ADOPTED: <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CITY <br />RESOLUTION RE: IN THE LEGISLATURE BE AND THEY ARE HEREBY REQUESTED <br />BILL TO AMEND TO INTRODUCE AND URGE THE PASSAGE OF A BILL TO AMEND <br />SEC. 99 ACTS. OF <br />ASSEMBLY SECTION 9, SUBSECTION (D) OF CHAPTER 226 OF THE 1944 <br />ACTS OF ASSEMBLY TO PERMIT THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />AND THE STATE COMPENSATION BOARD TO ENTER INTO AN <br />AGREEMENT ON THE AMOUNT OF FEE(S) TO BE PAID THE JAIL <br />PHYSICIAN TO CARE FOR PRISONERS IN THE JAIL WHO ARE IN <br />NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION. <br />THE FOLLOWING COMMUNICATION FROM THE CHARLOTTESVILLE REPUBLICAN <br />COMMITTEE WAS PRESENTED: <br />FEBRUARY 1, 1950 <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL <br />CITY HALL, CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. <br />GENTLEMEN: <br />AT A RECENTLY HELD QUARTERLY MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />REPUBLICAN COMMITTEEV TWO RESOLUTIONS WERE PASSED WITH PRO- <br />COMMUNICATION <br />RO- <br />COMMUN1CATION FROM VISIONS TH AT THEY BE TRANSMITTED BY LETTER TO THE CHARLOTTES- <br />CH'VILLE REP. COMMITTEE VILLE CITY COUNCIL FOR CONSIDERATION AND ACTION. BOTH OF <br />RE: VOTING PROCEDURE, ETC. THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTIONS WERE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED: <br />REFERRED TO COMMITTEE TO <br />STUDY SAME. ( 1 ) RESOLVED9 THAT THE REPUBLICAN CITY COMMITTEE BELIEVES <br />IT DESIRABLE THAT THE CITY PURCHASE VOTING MACHINES FOR EACH <br />OF THE CITY VOTING PLACES, AND RECOMMENDS TO THE CITY COUNCIL <br />THAT THIS MATTER BE CONSIDERED AS SOON AS POSS i BLE. (MOTION <br />MADE BY MR. TURNER, SECRETARY <br />REQUEST RE: OF THE ELECTORAL BOARDS ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED THAT <br />CARD INDEX SYSTEM <br />FOR REGISTRATION IMMEDIATE STEPS BE TAKEN TO PERMIT THE EMPLOYMENT OF A CARD INDEX <br />SYSTEM FOR THE REGISTRATION OF VOTERS IN CHARLOTTESVILLE. MR. ROTHWELL <br />DISCUSSED AT SOME LENGTH THE ADVANTAGES OF A CARD INDEX SYSTEM AS <br />COMPARED TO THE SYSTEM NOW USED, AND STATED THAT THE PRESENT METHOD <br />IS ENTIRELY INADEQUATE UNDER PRESENT CONDITIONS. ON MOTION BY <br />MR. HADEN 9 SECONDED BY MR.
