The vision of the <br />Wor ~kforce Investment Act Board is to provide opportunities for people to be educated <br />and trained and to provide opportunities for youth to enter the job market. Ms. O'Brien <br />said ~ a dispari~~ exists bee~veen s~dils people have and what skills are needed. The <br />major strategies are: one-stop system; develop business roundtab!es; and develop links <br />with youth providers and youth. <br /> <br /> ~ Caravafi noted that the io~ Board is the first in the state to COme forward <br />with a plan. <br /> <br />Mr. Lynch said the one-stop center is very impressive. <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said She is glad the Vkginia Employment Commission has <br />expanded the khd of ser~dces they provide. <br /> <br />REPORT: MOSQUITO CONTROL <br /> <br /> tvir. Ma ~urioe Jones, Director of Communications, said that the West Nile Virus <br />has appeared in the United States in the last two years, but there have been no <br />documented cases in Virginia. tvlr. Jones said that the key to reducing mosquito <br />problems is eliminating breeding grounds. Mr. Jones said that the City- has, in <br />conjunction with ~e Health Department, made attempts m educate the public through <br />various means, including "City Notes," the City's webpage, and public ser~ce <br />announcements. <br /> <br /> <br />
