<br /> Gene~German, Director of Parks and Recreation, indicated that he
<br />
<br />had spoken with people in that neighborhood and found that they pre-
<br />ferred wood, but essentially just wanted a replacement bridge.
<br />
<br /> On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, Council unanimously
<br />voted to have a steel bridge with a wood deck constructed in Greenbrier
<br />Park.
<br />
<br /> The appropriation of $20,600 for transfer in the Innovative Grant
<br />Fund which was offered at the meeting of May 3rd was adopted by the
<br />following vote: Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall.
<br />Noes: None. Absent: Mr. Conover.

<br /> The appropriation of $2,000 for CAC3 which was offered at the
<br />meeting of May 3rd was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Mr. Albro,
<br />Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. Absent: Mr. Conover.

<br /> The appropriation of $66,000 for the Fuel Assistance Program which
<br />was offered at the meeting of May 3rd was adopted by the following vote.

<br /> The appropriation of $45,867.27 for the Dairy Road sidewalk which
<br />was offered at the meeting of May 3rd was adopted by the following vote.
<br />Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. Absent:
<br />Mr. Conover.

<br /> Mr. Hendrix indicated that these two items would be deferred to the
<br />next meeting because of disagreement in figures.
<br />
<br />On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Dr. Hall, the following
<br />
<br />resolution was unanimously adopted by Council:
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the "General," a mighty white oak tree which shaded
<br />General Lee in the summer of 1865 and was a seedling at the time
<br />of the founding of Jamestown in 1607; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, this tree was reduced to a stump after being hit by
<br />lightning in 1972; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the "Lee Oak" has been planted as a replacement for
<br />the 100 year old tree by the Lee-Jackson Foundation on May 5, 1982
<br />in Lee Park in Charlottesville, Virginia;
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of
<br />Charlottesville, Virginia that we hereby accept this gift that will
<br />grace Lee Park for generations to come.
<br />
<br />On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the following
<br />
<br />resolution was unanimously adopted by Council:
<br />
<br /> A resolution appointing viewers to consider a request for the
<br />vacation of a certain triangular shaped parcel of land lying on the
<br />northeast side of relocated Route 20/Monticello Avenue, just north
<br />of Druid Avenue.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, this Council has received a petition requesting vacation
<br />of a certain triangular shaped parcel of land lying on the northeast
<br />side of relocated Route 20/Monticello Avenue, just north of Druid
<br />Avenue; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, it appears to Council that the notices required by
<br />Section 15.1-365 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended, have
<br />been duly posted;
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
<br />Charlottesville that W. J. Copeland, Mary Jane Haynes, and H. P.
<br />Winn report in writing to Council what inconvenience, if any, would
<br />result from such vacation.
<br />
<br />Mr. Hendrix pointed out that an error had been made in the Pay
<br />
<br />Plan, placing the Mayor in an incorrect pay range. He instructed
<br />
<br />Council to delete this information from the Plan.
