AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 133 OF THE CITY CODE <br /> <br />OF 1932, ENTITLED "SINKING FUND - PURCHASE OF BONDS FOR FUNDS". <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE Council of the City of Charlottesville, that <br /> <br />Section 133 of the City Code of 1932 be and the same is hereby amended and <br /> <br />reenacted, so as to read as follows: <br /> <br />SEC. 133. A. Sinking fund - purchase of bonds for funds. <br /> <br />The Commission shall apply all appropriations, interest and <br /> <br />profits from any bonds held by them to the purchase of bonds <br /> <br />or certificates of debt of this City, or of this State, or of <br /> <br />the United States, or of some other State of this Union, or <br /> <br />any other securities which under the laws of the State of Virginia <br /> <br />are designated and approved for the investment of Fiduciary funds. <br /> <br />The accrued interest on said securities shall be collected by the <br /> <br />Treasurer when due, and deposited to the credit of the sinking fund. <br /> <br />All such securities, or reinvestments of same, and the interest <br /> <br />thereon, shall be reinvested according to the provisions of this <br /> <br />section, until some part of the City debt shall become due, when, <br /> <br />unless other provisions be made by the Council, such securities, <br /> <br />so far as may be necessary, shall be sold and the proceeds applied <br /> <br />to the payment of such matured part of the City debt. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its <br /> <br />passage, and all ordinances, or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are <br /> <br />hereby repealed. OFFICERS - OFFICIAL BONDS. <br /> <br />The penalties of the official bonds of the following officers shall be, <br /> <br />respectively, as herein enumerated, to -wit: <br /> <br />Mayor ...................................................$2,000.00 <br /> <br />Auditor and Clerk ....................................... 5,000.00 <br /> <br />Treasurer ........... ... ................... ........... 25,000.00 <br /> <br />Treasurer of Sinking Fund Commission ....................25,000.00 <br /> <br />CityManager ............................................ 5,000.00 <br /> <br />CityCollector .......................................... 5,000.00 <br /> <br />Chief of Police, ....................................... 1,000.00 <br /> <br />Meter Readers of Gas & Water ...................... 1,000.00 <br /> <br />Superintendent of Cemeteries ............................ 1,000.00 <br /> <br />Superintendent of Public Welfare ........................ 2,000.00 <br /> <br />Clerk of Civil and Police Justice Court ................. 2,000.00 <br /> <br />CityElectrician ........................................ 500.00 <br /> <br />Every official bond required by the City shall be given in such <br /> <br />guaranty company as will be satisfactory to the Finance Committee, <br /> <br />and shall be made payable to the City of Charlottesville, with <br /> <br />conditions for the faithful discharge of the duties of the office <br /> <br />to which the person giving it has been elected or appointed. <br /> <br />All official bonds shall be paid for by the City. <br /> <br />Any person elected or appointed to any office who shall for ten days <br /> <br />after the beginning of the term for which he was elected or appointed, <br /> <br />neglect to give such bond and security as may be required of him, shall <br /> <br />thereby vacate his office. <br /> <br />The Finance Committee shall report to the Council all official bonds <br /> <br />given as required by this section for entry upon its journal and the <br /> <br />bonds shall be filed in the office of the clerk of the council. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its <br /> <br />passage, and all ordinances, or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are <br /> <br />hereby repealed. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council January 20, 1936. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. Fife, Dr. Haden, Mr. Huff, <br /> <br />Mr. Jessup and Mr. Twyman.
