22.1-41. Maximum Length.

<br />The maximum length of the indirect waste to vent shall not exceed
<br />
<br />15 feet.
<br />
<br />22.1-42. Cleaning.
<br />
<br />Indirect waste piping shall be so installed as to permit ready access
<br />
<br />for flushing and cleaning.
<br />
<br />22.1-43. Clear Water Waste.
<br />
<br />Water lifts, expansion tanks, cooling jackets, drip or overflow pans,
<br />
<br />or similar devices which waste clear water only shall discharge into
<br />
<br />the building drainage system through an indirect waste.
<br />
<br />Clear water lifts may connect to the drainage system with the use of
<br />
<br />a check valve in line and shall be connected to the drain line in such
<br />
<br />manner that drainage from fixtures located upstream may not enter
<br />
<br />the pump line.
<br />
<br />22.1-44. Drinking Fountains.
<br />
<br />Drinking fountains may be installed with indirect wastes.
<br />
<br />22.1-45. Swimming Pools.
<br />
<br />Piping carrying waste water from swimming or wading pools, including
<br />
<br />pool drainage, backwash from filters, water from scum gutter drains
<br />
<br />
<br />22.1-46. Repair and Alteration.
<br />
<br />In existing buildings or premises in which plumbing installations are
<br />
<br />to be altered, repaired, or renovated, necessary deviations from the
<br />
<br />provisions of this Code may be permitted, provided such deviations
<br />
<br />conform to the intent of the Code and are approved by the Plumbing
<br />
<br />Inspector prior to installation of work.
<br />
<br />No person shall discharge into the sewer system any matter or garbage
<br />
<br />or anything other than the ordinary discharge of water closets, liquid
<br />
<br />house slops and closet paper; provided that this section shall not be
<br />
<br />construed to prohibit the use of automatic household garbage disposal
<br />
<br />units.
<br />
<br />22.1-52. Commercial Disposal Unit.
<br />
<br />Any commercial or business establishment on a line flowing into the
<br />
<br />City sewage system may be granted a permit by the City Manager to
<br />
<br />discharge its wash or refuse therein through automatic disposal units,
<br />
<br />if the City Manager finds that such wash or refuse will not be damaging
<br />
<br />or harmful to and will not overload any portion of such sewage system.
<br />
<br />The City Manager reserves the right to order the owner to discontinue
<br />
<br />the use of any automatic disposal unit which is found to be causing
<br />
<br />damaging or harmful effects on the sewerage lines and/or disposal
<br />
<br />plants within a period of sixty days after notification.
<br />
<br />22.1-53. Chemical and Industrial Waste.
<br />
<br />(a) Special Permit.
<br />
<br />A special permit must be obtained from the City Manager before any
<br />
<br />waste other than sanitary sewage can be discharged into the City
<br />
<br />sewerage system. Such permit shall set forth the concentration and
<br />
<br />volume of such waste permitted to be discharged, but in no case shall
<br />
<br />a permit be granted where such waste will be damaging or harmful to
<br />
<br />the sewerage system and/or sewage treatment plants.
<br />
<br />The City Manager reserves the right to order the owner to discontinue
<br />
<br />the discharge of waste other than sanitary sewage which is found to be
<br />
<br />causing damaging or harmful effects on the sewage lines and/or disposal
<br />
<br />plants within a period of sixty days after notification.
<br />
<br />(b) Pipe, Fittings and Layout.
<br />
<br />Pipe and fittings for chemical and industrial waste lines shall be of
<br />
<br />materials unaffected by the discharge of such waste. All materials and
<br />
<br />layouts for chemical and industrial waste disposal and waste lines must
<br />
<br />be submitted to the Plumbing Board for approval.
<br />
<br />(5) Pre-formed Factory Joints.
<br />
<br />Pre-formed factory joints for vitrified clay pipe which have previously
<br />
<br />been approved by the Plumbing Board may be used.
<br />
<br />(6) Hot-Poured Joints.
<br />
<br />Hot-poured compound for clay sewer pipe shall not be water absorbent
<br />
<br />and, when poured against a dry surface, shall have a bond of not less
<br />
<br />than 100 psi. All surfaces of the joint shall be cleaned and dried before
<br />
<br />pouring. If wet surfaces are unavoidable, a suitable primer shall be
<br />applied.
<br />
<br />Compound shall not soften sufficiently to destroy the effectiveness of
<br />
<br />the joint when subjected to a temperature of 260 degrees F., nor be
<br />
<br />soluble in any of the waste carried by the drainage system.
<br />
<br />Approximately 25 percent of the joint space at the base of the socket
<br />
<br />shall be filled with jute or hemp. A pouring collar, rope or other device
<br />
<br />shall be used to hold the hot compound during pouring. Each joint shall
<br />
<br />be poured in one operation until the joint is filled. Joints shall not be
<br />
<br />tested until one hour after pouring.
<br />
<br />(7) Caulked Joints.
<br />
<br />Caulked joints for cast iron bell and spigot soil pipe shall be firmly
<br />
<br />packed with oakum and filled with molten lead not less than 1 inch
<br />
<br />deep and not extend more than 1/8 inch below the rim of the hub.
<br />
<br />No paint, varnish, or other coatings shall be permitted on the jointing
<br />
<br />material until after the joint has been tested and approved.
<br />
<br />22.1-59. Sewer in Relation to Water and Gas Lines.
<br />
<br />No sewer line shall be placed in the same service ditch with a water
<br />
<br />or gas line, and all sewer service lines shall be laid a minimum distance
<br />
<br />of five (5) feet from any water or gas service line or both, such minimum
<br />
<br />distance to be applicable throughout the entire length of such lines as
<br />
<br />they exist between the street property line and the building which is
<br />
<br />being served.
<br />
<br />22.1-60. Grade of Sewer and Waste Lines.
<br />
<br />All sewers, drains and horizontal soil and waste lines shall be laid in
<br />
<br />a straight line with a uniform grade of 1/4 inch per foot wherever
<br />
<br />practical. In no instance shall the grade be less than 1/8 inch per foot
<br />
<br />toward the sewer.
<br />
<br />Where the City connection is of unnecessary depth, the sewer may be
<br />
<br />brought up to proper grade by the use of 1/8 bends.
<br />
<br />22.1-61. Sewer in Filled Ground.
<br />
<br />A building sewer or drain installed in filled or unsettled ground shall
<br />
<br />be supported throughout its entire length in an approved manner.
<br />
<br />18. Brokers, in Stocks, Bonds, Bills and Options or Futures.
<br />
<br />Every person, firm or corporation conducting the business of stock,
<br />
<br />bond, note or bill broker, or engaged in the business of receiving
<br />
<br />orders to buy or sell cotton, grain, provisions or other commodities,
<br />
<br />shall be deemed to be a broker dealing in options or futures and shall
<br />
<br />pay a license tax of $____.
<br />
<br />If the gross fees and commissions exceed $2,000.00, the tax shall be
<br />
<br />50 cents on each $100.00 in addition thereto.
<br />
<br />19. Building and Loan Association.
<br />
<br />Specific license tax upon purely mutual companies lending only to
<br />
<br />stockholders, and confining its business solely to the City and County
<br />
<br />in which organized and counties and cities immediately contiguous
<br />
<br />thereto, $50.00.
<br />
<br />Specific license tax upon paid-up stock, or partially paid-up stock,
<br />
<br />to value of $25,000.00 or less, $75.00; and a further sum of $2.00
<br />
<br />upon each additional $1,000.00 or fractional part thereof of capital
<br />
<br />paid in.
<br />
<br />20. Buyers of Gold and Silver.
<br />
<br />Every buyer of gold and silver shall pay for the privilege of doing
<br />
<br />business in the City a license tax of $50.00; provided, however, that
<br />
<br />this license tax shall not apply to licensed jewelry merchants purchasing
<br />
<br />old gold and silver at their place of business.
<br />
<br />(b) Every person engaged in the business of erecting a building or
<br />
<br />buildings for the purpose of selling or renting the same and making no
<br />
<br />contract with a duly licensed contractor for the erection of said building,
<br />
<br />whether or not such person contracts with one or more duly licensed
<br />
<br />contractors for one or more portions, but does not contract with any one
<br />
<br />person for all of the work of erecting any one of said buildings, shall
<br />
<br />be deemed to be a speculative builder and, for the privilege of transacting
<br />
<br />business in this City, shall pay a license tax equal to $25.00.
<br />
<br />Where the entire cost of erecting the buildings, exclusive of the value
<br />
<br />of the land, exceeds $2,000.00, the tax shall be 15 cents on each $100.00
<br />
<br />in addition thereto.
<br />
<br />No person that is duly licensed as a contractor under paragraph (a) of
<br />
<br />this section and that is also engaged in the business of speculative
<br />
<br />building, for which a license tax would otherwise be prescribed by this
<br />
<br />paragraph, shall be liable for a separate license assessable under this
<br />
<br />paragraph, but every such person shall include in the basis for the tax
<br />
<br />to be computed under paragraph (a) all of the costs of erecting said
<br />
<br />speculative buildings, exclusive of the value of the land.
<br />
<br />(6) Hot-Poured Joints.
<br />
