RESCUE <br />SQUAD RE: LAND TO CONSTRUCT <br />BUILDING <br /> <br />REQUEST TO HANG BANNERS <br />ACROSS STREETS FIREMEN~S <br />CONVENTION <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MHD LEE, SECONDED BY ~RoPONTON, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION <br />WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED[ <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, <br /> VIRGtNIA~ THAT THE SALE OF ~3~O00~O00.OOCITY OF CHARLOTTESVlLLE~ <br /> WATER IHPROVEMENT BONDS~ SERIES OF !962, BEARING INTEREST ON THE <br /> FIRST 8 MATURITIES AT THE RATE OF 2.50~ PER ANNUM, ON THE NEXT <br /> t MATURITY AT THE RATE OF 2.60~ PER ANNUM~ ON THE NEXT 7 MATURITY <br /> AT THE RATE OF 2.75~ PER ANNUM~ AND ON THE NEXT 10 NATURITIES AT <br /> THE RATE OF 3.00~ PER ANNUM FOR THE SUM OF ~3,002~438.00, PLUS <br /> ACCRUED INTEREST FRON THE DATE OF THE BONDS TO THE DATE OF <br /> DELIVERY, AS~REPORTED BY THE CITY HANAGER, BE AND THE SANE IS <br /> HEREBY APPROVED AND CONFIRMED. <br /> <br /> AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE CITY HANAGER PROCEED TO <br /> HAVE SAID BONDS PREPARED AND DELIVERED TO THE SUCCESSFUL BIDDER <br /> UPON PAYMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS OF THE BID. <br /> ON MOTION THE NEETING ADJOURNED. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAHBER - AUGUST 6, 1962 <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WiTH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br /> PRESENT: HR. HAGGERTY~ HR. LEE, HR. HOUNT, HR. PONTON AND HR. SCRIBNER. ABSENT: <br /> NONE. <br /> <br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF JULY 16, 7962, dULY 20~ 1~62 AND ~ULY 25, <br /> <br /> ~9~2 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br /> <br /> ~R. H. E. BAUMBERGER PRESENTED THE COUNCIL WITH THE ORIGINAL DRAWING OF A <br /> CARTOON BY FRED A. SEIBEL WHICH APPEARED IN THE RICHMOND TIMES DISPATCH COMMEMORATING <br /> THE CHARLOTTESVILLE ~OOTH ANNIVERSARY. THE ~AYOR ACCEPTED THE DRAWING ON BEHALF <br /> OF THE COUNCIL AND THANKED HR. BAUMBERGER FOR THE GIFT. <br /> <br /> A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS DATE ON THE PETITION OF HR. $. W. HEISCHMAN <br /> FOR A CHANGE IN THE ZONING LIMITS ON HIS PROPERTY ON LONG STREET. MR. HEISCHMAN <br /> ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL IN BEHALF OF HIS REQUEST AND A GROUP OF PEOPLE APPEARED IN <br /> OPPOSITION. A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE PLANNING CONMISSION RECOMMENDING <br /> THAT THE REQUEST BE DENIED. ON MOTION BY HR. ~OUNT~ SECONDED BY ~R. HAGGERTY~ THE <br /> REPORT OF THE PLANNING COMHISSION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE ALBEMARLE RESCUE SQUAD, INC. REQUESTING <br />THE CiTY TO LEASE A PARCEL OF LAND TO THE RESCUE SQUAD ON WHICH TO CONSTRUCT A <br />BUILDING TO ACCOMMODATE ITS EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES. ON MOTION BY ~R. LEE, SECONDED <br />BY MR. HAGGERT~ IT WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br /> <br /> RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL PROVIDE LAND NEAR THE TENNIS COURTS ON ~ClNTIRE <br />ROAD AS REQUESTED BY THE ALBEMARLE RESCUE SQUAD~ INC. FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A <br />RESCUE SQUAD BUILDING~ CONDITIONED UPON THE RESCUE SQUAD WORKING OUT THE LEASE <br />ARRANGEMENTS SATISFACTORY WITH COUNCIL AND OBTAINING APPROVAL OF PLANS AND <br />SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE BUILDING BEFORE CONSTRUCTION IS STARTED. <br /> <br /> ~R. LIONAL KEY ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND REQUESTED PERMISSION FOR THE VOLUNTEER <br />FIRE COMPANY TO HANG BANNERS ACROSS THE STREETS IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA AND AT THE <br />ENTRANCES TO THE CITY DURING THE WEEK OF THE FIREMENIS CONVENTION. A MOTION BY <br />HR. LEE~ SECONDED BY ~R. PONTON THAT PERNtSSION BE GRANTED TO HANG THE BANNERS IN <br />THE DOWNTOWN AREA~ BUT NOT AT THE ENTRANCES TO THE CITY WAS UNANINOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> <br />
