HARRIS, FOR <br />DAMAGES TO HER PROPERTY RESULTING FROM A BROKEN WATER MAIN WAS PRESENTED AND <br />REFERRED TO THE CITY ATTORNEY FOR INVESTIGATION AND REPORT. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. DAVIS, SECONDED BY MR. FORBES, IT WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br />RESOLVED : THAT THE COUNCIL COMMEND THE MONTICELLO GUARD FOR ITS <br />SPLENDID SHOWING IN WINNING THE SILVER CUP WHICH WAS AWARDED TO IT AS <br />THE BEST AMERICAN MARCHING UNIT ON AUGUST 29, 1953, AT THE WARRIORS DAY <br />PARADE HELD AT THE CANADIAN NATIONAL EXPOSITION AT TORONTO, ONTARIO, AND <br />THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION, ALONG WITH THE HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS OF <br />THE COUNCIL, BE SENT TO THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE MONTICELLO GUARD. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. DAVIS, SECONDED BY MR. FORBES, IT WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br />RESOLVED: THAT THE COUNCIL OFFICIALLY EXPRESS ITS GRIEF AT THE <br />DEATH OF CHIEF MAURICE F. GREAVER WHO SO ABLY SERVED AS CHIEF OF <br />POLICE FOR THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE FOR TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS AND <br />WHOSE LOSS WILL BE DEEPLY FELT BY THE ENTIRE CITY; AND <br />IT WAS FURTHER UNANIMOUSLY <br />RESOLVED: THAT THE CLERK BE DIRECTED TO SEND A COPY OF THIS <br />RESOLUTION TO CHIEF GREAVER'S FAMILY, AND AT THE SAME TIME, CONVEY <br />TO THE FAMILY IN THIS HOUR OF DISTRESS, THE SYMPATHY OF EACH <br />MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL. <br />A COMMUNICATION FROM MR. A. P.
