22.1-41. Maximum Length. <br />The maximum length of the indirect waste to vent shall not <br />exceed 15 feet. <br />22.1-42. Cleaning. <br />Indirect waste piping shall be so installed as to permit <br />ready access for flushing and cleaning. <br />22.1-43. Clear Water Waste. <br />Water lifts, expansion tanks, cooling jackets, drip or over- <br />flow pans, or similar devices which waste clear water only <br />shall discharge into the building drainage system through an <br />indirect waste. <br />Clear water lifts may connect to drainage system with the <br />use of check valve in line and shall be connected to drain line <br />in such manner that drainage from fixtures located upstream <br />may not enter pump line. <br />22.1-44. Drinking Fountains. <br />Drinking fountains may be installed with indirect wastes. <br />22.1-45. Swimming Pools. <br />Piping carrying waste water from swimming or wading <br />pools, including pool drainage, back wash from filters, water <br />from scum gutter drains or floor drains which serve walks <br />around pools, shall be installed as an indirect waste utilizing <br />any existing circulation pump, if necessary, when indirected <br />waste line is below the sewer grade. <br />• ARTICLE V—IN GENERAL. <br />22.1-46. Repair and Alteration. <br />In existing buildings or premises in which plumbing instal- <br />lations are to be altered, repaired, or renovated, necessary <br />deviations from the provisions of this Code may be permitted, <br />provided such deviations conform to the intent of the Code <br />and are approved by the Plumbing Inspector prior to installa- <br />tion of work. <br />matter or garbage or any thing other than the ordinary dis- <br />charge of water closets, liquid house slops and closet paper; <br />provided that this section shall not be construed to prohibit <br />the use of automatic household garbage disposal units. <br />22.1-52. Commercial Disposal Unit. <br />Any commercial or business establishment on a line flowing <br />into the City sewage system may be granted a permit by the <br />City Manager to discharge its wash or refuse therein through <br />automatic disposal units, if the City Manager finds that such <br />wash or refuse will not be damaging or harmful to and will <br />not overload any portion of such sewage system. <br />The City Manager reserves the right to order the owner to <br />discontinue the use of any automatic disposal unit which is <br />found to be causing damaging or harmful effects on the sew- <br />erage lines and/or disposal plants within a period of sixty <br />days after notification. <br />$. Brokers, in Stocks, Bonds, Bills and Options or Futures. <br />Every person, firm or corporation conducting the business of <br />stock, bond, note or bill broker or engaged in the business of receiving <br />orders to buy or sell cotton, grain provisions or other commodities shall <br />be deemed to be a broker dealing in options or futures and shall pay <br />00, and if the <br />oss <br />a license tax missions exceed $2 000 00 the taxgshall beount of 50c on gross <br />fes and com each <br />$100.00 in addition thereto. <br />19. Building and Loan Association. <br />Specific license tax upon purely mutual companies lending only <br />to stockholders, and confining its business solely to the City and Coun- <br />ty in which organized and counties and cities immediately contiguous <br />thereto, $50.00. <br />Specific license tax upon paid-up stock, or partially paid-up stock, <br />to value of $25,000.00 or less, $75.00; and a further sum of $2.00 <br />ul)on each additional $1,000.00rerfractional <br />nder oath of capital <br />Note: commissioner mu quirestatement <br />paid in. <br />20. Buyers of Gold and Silver. <br />Every buyer of gold and silver shall pay for the privilege of doh g <br />tat <br />business in the City a license tax o' $50.00; provided, however, <br />this license tax shall not apply t,) licensed jewelry merchants pur- <br />chasing old gold and silver at their place of business. <br />(5) Pre -formed factory joints for vitrified clay pipe which <br />have previously been approved by the Plumbing Board may <br />be used. <br />(6) Hot -Poured Joints. Hot -poured compound for clay <br />sewer pipe shall not be water absorbent and when poured <br />against a dry surface shall have a bond of not less than 100 <br />psi. All surfaces of the joint shall be cleaned and dried before <br />pouring. If vet surfaces are unavoidable, a suitable primer <br />shall be applied. Compound shall not soften sufficiently to <br />destroy the effectiveness of the joint when subjected to a <br />temperature of 260 degrees F. nor be soluble in any of the <br />waste carried by the drainage system. Approximately 25 per <br />cent of the joint space at the base of the socket shall be filled <br />with jute or hemp. A pouring collar, rope or other device shall <br />be used to hold the hot compound during pouring. Each joint <br />shall be poured in one operation until the joint is filled. Joints <br />shall not be tested until one hour after pouring. <br />(7) Caulked Joints. Caulked joints for cast iron bell and <br />spigot soil pipe shall be firmly packed with oakum and filled <br />with molten lead not less than 1 inch deep and not extend <br />more than 1/8 inch below rim of hub. No paint, varnish, or <br />other coatings shall be permitted on the jointing material <br />until after the joint has been tested and approved. <br />22.1-59. Sewer in Relation to Water and Gas Lines. <br />No sewer line shall be placed in the same service ditch with <br />a water or gas line, and all sewer service lines shall be laid <br />a minimum distance of five (5) feet from any water or gas <br />service line or both, such minimum distance to be applicable <br />throughout the entire length of such lines as they exist between <br />the street property line and the building which is being served. <br />22.1-60. Grade of Sewer and Waste Lines. <br />All sewers, drains and horizontal soil and waste lines shall <br />be laid in a straight line with a uniform grade of 1/4 inch per <br />foot wherever practical, in no instance shall grade be less <br />than 1/8 inch per foot toward the sewer; where City connection <br />is of unnecessary depth, the sewer may be brought up to <br />proper grade by the use of 1/8 bends. <br />22.1-61. Sewer in Filled Ground. <br />A building sewer or drain installed in filled or unsettled <br />ground shall be supported throughout its entire length in an <br />M" <br />Z <br />22.1-53. Chemical and Industrial Waste. <br />(a) Special Permit. <br />A special permit must be obtained from the City Manager <br />before any waste other than sanitary sewage can be discharged <br />into the City sewerage system. Such permit shall set forth <br />the concentration and volume of such waste permitted to be <br />discharged, but in no case shall a permit be granted where <br />such waste will be damaging or harmful to the sewerage <br />system and/or sewage treatment plants. <br />• <br />The <br />City Manager reserves the right to order the owner to <br />discontinue the discharge of waste other than sanitary sewage <br />which is found to be causing damaging or harmful effects on <br />the sewage lines and/or disposal plants within a period of <br />sixty days after notification. <br />(b) Pipe, Fittings and Layout. <br />Pipe and fittings for chemical and industrial waste lines <br />shall be of materials unaffected by the discharge of such <br />waste. All materials and layouts for chemical and industrial <br />waste disposal and waste lines must be submitted to the <br />Plumbing Board for approval. <br />(b) Every person engaged in the business of erecting a build- <br />ing or buildings for the <br />purpose of selling or renting the same and <br />making no contract with a duly licensed contractor for the <br />erection of <br />said building, whether or not such person contracts with one or more <br />duly licensed contractors for one <br />or more portions, but does not con- <br />tract with any one person for all of the work of <br />erecting any one of <br />said bulidings, shall be deemed to be a speculative builder and for <br />the privilege of transacting business in <br />this city, shall pay a license <br />tax equal to............................$25.00 and where the entire <br />cost of erect- <br />ing the buildings, exclusive of the value of the land, exceed $2,000.00 <br />the tax shall be 15c on each $100.00 in <br />addition thereto. No person <br />that is duly licensed as a contractor under paragraph (a) of this <br />sec- <br />tion and that is also engaged in the business of speculative building <br />for which a license tax be <br />would otherwise prescribed by this para- <br />graph, shall be liable for a separate license, assessable under this <br />para- <br />graph, but every such person shall include in the basis for the tax to <br />be computed under paragraph <br />(a) all of the costs of erecting said <br />speculative buildings exclusive of the value of the land, which costs <br />$.
