APPROPRIATION: <br />$33,600 NEW <br />STREET LIGHTS <br /> (2nd reading) <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br />$1,000 <br />COMMUNITY ATTENTION <br />HOME <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br />$367.2s <br />SHENANDOAH <br />JUVENILE <br />DETENTION HOME <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br />AUTHORIZING MAYOR <br />TO SIGN CONTRACT <br />FOR CENTRAL PLACE <br /> <br /> The appropriation of $33,600 for new street lights which was <br />offered at the meeting of May 16th was approved by the following <br />vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. <br />Hall. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that a $!,000 donation had been made to <br /> <br />the Community Attention Girls~ Home and Council needed to appropriate <br />it in order to have it placed in the proper fund. <br /> Mrs. Gleason expressed great appreciation for the donation and <br /> <br />moved to approved the appropriation. Dr. Hall seconded, and the <br />following appropriation was approved by the fo]lowing vote. Ayes: <br />Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> Virginia, that the sum of $1,000.00, received as a donation from two <br /> private individuals, is hereby appropriated to expenditure account <br /> 19-11020 to be used to purchase bedroom furniture for the Girls' <br /> Attention Home; and be it further <br /> RESOLVED, that the Mayor is requested to send a letter to the <br /> donors expressing Council's gratitude for their g~nerosity. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that ~he appropriation of $367.28 to the. <br /> Shenandoah Juvenile Detention Home was necessary because their final <br /> budget request was submitted to the City after the FY 83 budget was <br /> finalized~ This amount would make up the slight difference. He also <br /> explained that the appropriation could be approved after the first <br /> reading as it was less than $1,000. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason moved, Dr. Hall seconded, and the following appro- <br /> priation was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. <br /> Conover, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> Virginia, that the sum of $367..28 is hereby appropriated from the <br /> unappropriated balance of the General Fund to expenditure account <br /> 01~12090 as an increase in the city's contribution to the operation <br /> of the Shenandoah Juvenile Detention Home. <br /> <br /> Mr. Wiley explained that Council had approved the contract for <br /> <br /> the Central Place the previous week which guaranteed that the building <br /> would be completed or, in the occurrence of it not being completed, <br /> the City would be assigned the loan proceeds to enable the completion <br /> of the project. Mr. Wiley introdUced Mr. Craig Redinger, a partner in <br /> the Central Place project. <br /> <br /> Mr. Redinger addressed Council regarding some concerns expressed <br /> <br /> at the previous meeting, including control by the City if the project <br /> did not move forward or was not completed 24 months after issuance of <br /> the contract, and assurancy hy him that the $10,000 previously promised <br /> by Mr. Milgraum to improve the Central Place would continue to be <br /> honored by him. Mr. Redinger said that he was planning to meet with <br /> Mr. Huja, Director of Community Development, to present changes in the <br /> plan. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question by Mr. Conover, Mr. Redinger said that <br /> Paramount Theatre was to be renovated and included in this project. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck noted concern that the contract did not give City Council <br /> control over any plan changes in the future, and the contract was amended <br /> to show that plans must be approved by the City. <br /> <br /> Dr. Gunter asked what had been done to change the horizontal effect <br /> of the proposed building, and Mr. Redinger replied that brick was to be <br /> <br /> <br />
