APPROPRIATION: <br />$15,000 <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />FIRE COMPANY <br /> (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />ville, Virginia, that the appropriations made to the following <br />accounts in the Grants Fund are hereby reduced by the respective <br />amounts shown, and the balance accumulated in .this fund as a result <br />of these reductions is..hereby reappropriated to the expenditure <br />account 11-33080: <br /> <br />Account Code <br />11~33060 <br /> <br />Purpose <br /> <br />Transit Technical Studies <br />Grant ($1,360, UMTA; $170, <br />VDH&T; $170, Local Match <br /> <br />RedUction <br /> <br />Revised <br />lppropriation <br /> <br />$1,700.00 <br /> <br />$13,300.00 <br /> <br />11-33070 Transit~ Planning and <br /> Programming Grant ($1,865, <br /> FHA, $165, VDH&T,; $165, <br /> Local Match) $2,195.00 <br /> <br /> TOTAL $3,895.00 <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that he felt the appropriation for the <br />Charlottesville Volunteer Fire Company should remain at the level <br />that had been committed by Council when the Fire Company approached <br />them in 1982, and that the Fire Company could return and request a <br />supplemental appropriation should it become necessary. Mr. Buck <br />added that it was unique for Council to fund such a convention. <br /> Mr.-Harry Cook, Chief of the Volunteer Fire Company, and Mr. <br /> Frederick Taylor reques, ted that Council appropriate the entire <br /> $15,000 because the Fire Company needed the entire amount to plan a <br /> <br />$16,119.00 <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br />$i,092 <br />CHARTER HOUSE <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br />URGING CONTINUA- <br />TION OF FEDERAL <br />REVENUE SHARING <br /> <br />good convention. <br /> The appropriation of $15,000 for the Charlottesville Volunteer <br />Fire Company which was offered at the meeting of March 4th was approved <br />by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, <br />Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia that the sum of $15,000, or as much thereof as may be <br />required, is hereby appropriated from the unappropriated balance <br />of the General Fund to. expenditure account 01-92540 for the purpose <br />of defraying expenses incurred by the Charlottesville Volunteer <br />Fire Company in hosting the 99th convention of the Virginia State <br />Fireman Association. <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the $1,092 appropriation for Charter <br /> House would cover a shortfall o~ state funds. <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the $1,092 <br /> appropriation for Charter House was offered and carried over to the <br /> next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes provided an amended resolution supporting federal <br /> general revenue sharing because he objected to speaking for other <br /> municipalities. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that he objected to significant federal cuts <br /> <br /> in areas such as social services which had been made in 1981 when <br /> other areas of the federal budget continued to grow, and recommended <br /> that the resolution include reference to continuing federal transit <br /> funding. Mr. Buck asked that the resolution also include a requeSt <br /> that should cuts be made in the federal budget that they be made <br /> <br />equitably in all areas. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason noted that the Metropolitan Planning Organization <br />had passed a resolution urging a continuation of federal transit <br /> <br />funding. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason moved t'o amend the resolution to include urging <br />a continuation of transit funding and to add that should cuts be <br />made, that they be.made equitably throughout the budget.
