Public Hearing re: <br />Railroad Crossings <br /> <br />Appointments~re: <br />Social Development <br />Commission <br /> <br />Appointments re: <br />Starr Hill Revitalization <br />Project Loan Committee <br /> <br />Appointment re: <br />Community Attention <br />Home Advisory Board <br /> <br />Appointment re: <br />Community Attention <br />Home Advisory Board <br /> <br />Appointment re: <br />Library Board <br /> <br />Appointment re: <br />Social Services <br />Advisory Board <br /> <br />Appointment re: <br />MACAA Advisory <br />Board <br /> <br />Appointments re: <br />RSVP Advisory Board <br /> <br />Request re: Turkey <br />Shoon - Veterans of <br />Foreign Wars <br /> <br /> The Mayor thanked Mrs, Thomas for the work of her commitee. <br /> <br /> A public hearing was held on this date to discuss closing the <br /> railroad crossings at Dale Avenue and Concord Avenue over Southern <br /> Railroad and also the installation of gates at some other crossings. <br /> <br /> The City Manager briefly reviewed the traffic engineers report <br /> which was presented to Council at its meeting on August 20th. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ed Kruger suggested that gates be installed at the 9th <br /> Street crossing, <br /> <br /> Mrs~ Beatrice Moe complained about the blinking lights when <br /> <br /> a train is parked some distance from the crossing at Shamrock Road. <br /> Mr. LioneI Key spoke in opposition to installing gates. <br /> <br /> Mrs. O'Brien stated she would not be opposed to closing Dale <br /> Avenue and~Concord Avenue if signs were posted at each end of the <br /> street stating that thi~ was going to be done. <br /> <br /> A motion by Mrs, O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Buck that the City <br /> proceed with process of closing Dale Avenue and Concord Avenue to <br /> through traffic, was unanimously adopted, <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr, Buck, Erm'est Moorer, Callie Stone and Leslie <br /> Eliason were appointed to the Social Development Commission, by <br /> unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Gatewood, Bill Haney, Doris Layne and Bill <br /> Grimm were appointed to the Start Hill Revitalization Project <br /> Loan~Committee, by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs, O~Brien, Anna Bell Hopkins was appointed to <br /> the Community Attention Home Advisory Board, by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Buck, Margarette Murray was appointed to the <br /> Community Attention Home Advisory ?Board, by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Brunton, Barbara Isaac was appointed~.to the <br /> Jefferson-Madison Regional Library Board, by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion bY Mrs. O'Brien, Elizabeth Trimble and Susie Williams <br />were appointed to the Social Services Advisory Board, by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Gatewood, Carlton P.ritchard was appointed to <br />the Monticello Area Community Action Agency Advisory Board, by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr.~Brunton, Virginia Purvis-Smith and Cathy <br />Boskey were appointed to the R.S.V.P. Advisory Board, by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br /> A communication was presented from the Veterans of Foreign <br /> <br />Wars requesting permission to conduct turkey shoots on Friday <br />evenings from September 14, 1979 through January 25, 1980. On <br />motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Buck the foregoing request <br />was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> <br />
