Commission report re: <br />Retirement Fund Commission <br /> <br />Resolution re: Establishing <br />insurance limits fOr <br />bicycle race <br /> <br />Ordinance re: Amending <br />Legal Holiday Schedule <br /> <br /> A statement of t~e Ci~'y of Charlottesville Retirement Plan <br /> Fund as of June 30~?i~7~9~as required by Section 20-17 of the City <br /> Code, was presented and ordered filed with the minutes of this <br /> meeting. <br /> <br /> A mtaff report was presented stating that a local firm, Kruger <br /> Farms Apple Cider, is arranging .a special downtown promotional <br /> effort incooperation witk Downtown Charlottesville~ Inc. for the <br /> last week end in October, As a part of the promotion they want <br /> to hold two events which would use the city streets, a family run <br /> and hicycte race which are to be held between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. <br /> on Sunday, Octoher'28th. The report stated the race has been <br /> reviewed and approved by both the police department and traffic <br /> engineering division and the estimated cost of providing traffic <br /> control fnr this activity is $600.00, <br /> <br /> Representatives of Downtown Charlottesville, Inc. endorse <br /> <br /> the project and Kruger Farms has agreed to provide the required <br /> insurance coverage, notify personally all major organizations <br /> affected by the street closings, provide adequate restroom <br /> facilities, assist police with volunteer marshals, assist in <br /> clean up efforts and participate in the cost of traffic control. <br /> <br /> The staff recommends that the Council approve the use of <br /> <br /> city streets for time and date requested and to set the recommended <br /> insurance coverage requirement which are three hundred thousand <br /> dollars personal injury and one hundred thousand dollars property <br /> damage. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mark Kruger addressed the Council and stated that his <br /> company is willing to provide the necessary insurance and <br /> contribute two hundred'dollars to help defray the cost of traffic <br /> control. <br /> <br /> Miss Amy Rakes, Executive Director of Downtown Charlottesville, <br /> Inc. stated that D.C.I. would contribute $75.00 of the traffic <br /> contro~ cost. <br /> <br /> A motiOn by Mr.~.~Gatewood, seconded by Mrs. O'Brien that <br />Council approve the use of the streets for the date and time <br />requested, that insurance be provided at the recommended limits <br />and conditioned upon other provisions to which Kruger Farms has <br />agreed, was adopted by the following recorded vote, Ayes: Mr. <br />Brunton, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: Mr. Buck. Absent: <br />Mr. Albro. <br /> <br /> An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE-TO AMEND AND REORDAIN <br />SECTION 2-1 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, AS <br />AMENDED, RELATING TO LEGAL HOLIDAYS," which was offered at the <br />meeting of the Council on August 20, 1979, was adopted by the <br />following recorded vote.
