Resolution re: <br />Refunding Erroneous <br />Taxes <br /> <br />Ordinance re: <br />Reauthorizing the <br />issuance of General <br />Improvement Bonds <br />in the Amount of <br />$1,000,000 <br /> <br />Request for <br />Earlier Bus <br />Route in <br />Greenbrier <br /> <br />Executive Session <br /> <br /> RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Ckarlottesville <br />that the City hereby endorses the request of Piedmont Virginia <br />Co~m~unity College and the State Board of Community Colleges for <br />approval of an extended lease of the Western Virginia <br />Bicentennial Center property for use as a tourist information <br />center and request the other local jurisdictions served by <br />Piedmont Virginia Community College to join in such request; and <br />be it further <br /> <br /> RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council be directed to <br />send certified copies of this resolution to Governor John <br />Dalton, Mr. Bernard J. Haggerty, Chairman, State Board of <br />Community Colleges, Dr. Richard J. Ernst, Iterim Chancellor <br />for the Cormnunity College System, Dr. George B. Vaughan, <br />President, PiedmOnt Virginia Community College, and to the <br />governing bodies of the Counties of Albemarle, Nelson, Greene <br />and Fluvanna. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mrs. O'Brien the <br />follOwing resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the C~{~issi°ner~of the Reyenu~ 'has certified <br /> that J. S. Mathers, Inc. was erroneously assessed for <br /> city contractor's license taxes in the amount of $122.62 for <br /> 1978 and $1,357.50 for 1979, which assessments were duly paid <br /> of the City Treasurer; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, J. S. Mathers, Inc. has made timely <br /> application for the correction of such assessments, and refund <br /> of taxes paid, as provided by §58-1142 of the Code of Virginia, <br /> now, therefore,be it ~ <br /> <br /> RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br /> ville that the City Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed <br /> to refund to J. S. Mathers, Inc., out of rewenues received <br /> in General Fund revenue account 01-00001-4201 in the current <br /> fiscal year, the sum of $1,480.12. <br /> <br /> An ordinance~entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND <br /> <br />REORDAINING AN ORDINANCE ADOPTED ON JUNE ~, 1978, AUTHORIZING <br /> <br />THE ISSUANCE OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS ($1,000,000) GENERAL <br /> <br />IMPROVEMENT BONDS OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA, <br /> <br />TO PROVIDE THAT THE BONDS.AUTHORIZED THEREBY MAY BE ISSUED <br /> <br />ON OR BEFORE JUNE 30, 1980 AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE CHANGE OF <br /> <br />CERTAIN DESIGNATIONS AND DETAILS OF SAID BONDS," which was <br /> <br />offered at the meeting of the Council on September 17, 1979, <br />was adopted by the following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, <br />Mr.Brunton, Mr. Buck, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: None. <br /> The City Manager advised the Council that a request has been <br />received from some residents of Greenbrier who work at F.S.T.C. <br />indicating that if bus service started earlier in the morning <br />they would be able to use this service. He stated that this <br />has been discussed with. the transit division and they indicated <br />this service could be provided without any additional equipment <br />and that the expenses of operating this service would be a <br />deficit of approximately $200.00 per year. He stated that the <br />transit people request that they be allowed to operate this <br />service on a trial basis for three months to determine if <br />there is a sufficient r~dership to warrant continuing the <br /> <br />service. <br /> <br />On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Gatewood the <br />additional service was authorized for a period of three months. <br /> A motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Mr. Gatewood that Council <br />meet in executive session to discuss a matter exempted by <br /> <br />Section 2.1-344(a)(6) of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, <br /> <br /> <br />
