Absen~ Mr. Gatewood. <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Authorize City <br />Manager to szgn <br />Transit Stndy <br />Grant <br /> <br /> The City Manager presented a resolution required by the <br />State Highway Department which the Council needs to adopt to <br />authorize him to accept a Transit Study grant of $20,000 to be <br />used to undertake some development studies to provide Council <br /> <br />with information with regards to the cost of operation for <br />increased headways and additional equipment which will be needed <br />and additional Services which could be provided and also efforts <br /> <br />to coordinate activities in the urban area of the county in the <br /> <br />future. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Albro the <br />following resolution, was unanimously adopted and urging that <br /> <br />the time table attached be followed. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Highways and <br />Transportation has notified the City of its approval of a request <br />for a grant of UMTA Section 18 Planning Funds to undertake a <br />public transportation development study for the Charlottesville- <br />Albemarle area, in the maximum amount of $20,000; and <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Standards for Access <br />for the Handicapped <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City is desirous of accepting such grant <br />and entering into the requisite contractural agreement to proceed <br />with the study; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Charlottesville that the City Manager is hereby <br />authorized and directed to accept the aforesaid grant to <br />execute on behalf of the City the document styled An Agreement <br />for the Utilization of UMTA Section 18 Planning Funds between <br />the City of Charlottesville and the Virginia Department of <br />Highways and Transportation, consisting of Parts I and II, a copy <br />of which is hereby directed to be filed with the papers of <br />the meeting of City Council at which this resolution is.adopted. <br /> <br />On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Albro the <br /> <br />following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code <br />establishes mandatory standards for design and construction to <br />insure access by handicapped persons to all places of public <br />accommodation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, adherence to such standards in newly <br />constructed and renovated facilities within the City of <br />Charlottesville is monitored by the Inspections Division of the <br />Department of Public Works through its building permit and <br />inspection procedures, and by the Department of Community <br />Development and Planning Commission; and <br /> <br /> <br />
