Ms. <br />Joyce Carter and Mr. David Sheffield were thus appointed to <br />the School Board. <br /> <br /> Mr. Charles Granquist, a member of the Thomas Jefferson <br />Visitors' Bureau Board, presented the bureau's 1980-81 budget <br />for Council's approval. In the Bureau's five months' operation, <br />he noted the following accomplishments: design of the bureau's <br />logo, publication of the bureau's brochure and accommodations <br />brochure, new sign system to direct visitors to the bureau, <br />contacts with area businesses and agencies to promote the role <br />of the bureau. He noted the 1980-81 budget as $53,316 with <br />the. Chamber of Commerce and Albemarle County each contributing <br />$13,329 and the City contributing $26,650. Mr. Granquist requested <br />a review of the bureau's operations at the end of fiscal year <br />1980-81, due to its being in operation only 5 months at this <br />point. He introduced Ms. Betty McLemore, Director of the bureau, <br />who spoke briefly about the bureau's accomplishments and thanked <br />the City for its support. There being no objection, COuncil <br />unanimously approved the bureau's budget. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development and <br />Planning, presented a report on outreach services among local <br />agencies which is the product of the City planning staff and <br />the Social Development Commission. The following recommendations <br />were contained in the report: (1) all agencies should provide <br />two outreach reports to the Department of Community Development, <br />November 15 and June 15; (2) the use of case-management tech- <br />niques shouldbe encouraged among agencies to coordinate services <br />to individual clients; (3) uniform contact and~referral forms <br />should be developed among agencies; (4) a subcommittee, on outreach <br />in the Human Resource Association should be established to <br />facilitate outreach efforts; (5) community agencies should make <br />fuller and more effective use of InformatiOn and Referral, a <br />United Way agency;~ and, (6) a worksession on outreach should be <br />held among Council, Social Development Commission representatives <br />and agency representatives. On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded <br />by Mr. Buck, Council unanimously agreed to release agency funds <br />with the understanding that the worksession and implementation of <br />the. recommendations would take plaCe as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> Mr. Alphonso Taylor, Project Manager for M.A.C.A.A.'s Compre- <br />hensive Neighborhood Improvement Program, presented a report on <br />C.N~I.P.'s accomplishments to date which include: (1) establish- <br />ment of the Fifeville Neighborhood Association in September, <br />1979; (2) implementation of cultural/recreational activities <br />including a bus trip to Washington, D.C., for 32 neighborhood <br />children and a modern dance program at Carver Recreational <br />Center for neighborhood preschoolers; (3) housing activities <br />that include contracts for rehabilitating at least 7 houses in <br />Center City; (4) a capital improvements grant of $8,000 to <br /> <br /> <br />
