Mr. Clark Jones, District Chairman of the VPI&SU Extension
Service, reported on a merger plan for the City and County
Extension offices to be effective July 1, 1980. He stated
that this merger will preserve the agricultural/horticultural
services, nutrition program and 4-H programs that were endangered
by-previous Council budget cuts to the City Extension Office.

The merged office will be located at Mclntire School after January
1, 1981, with programatic and administrative functions combining
in July, 1980. Mr. Jones reported that Mr. Guy Agnor, Albemarle
County Executive, considers this plan to be acceptable to the
County since it involves no additional appropriations from
the County. Mr. Jones requested an additional appropriation of
$1,283 from the City, making the total City funding for the
Extension Service $16,000 for fiscal year 1980-81. Mr. Jones
pointed out that the City W°uld benefit from the combined
effect of having 7 agenta.: available (City and County) after
the merger takes effect, with a smaller appropriation than
last year's funding, including maintaining services that the
City expeCted to lose with this year's smaller appropriation.
On motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Albro, the appropriation
of $1,283 was offered and carried over to the next meeting
for consideration.
