Appropriation re: <br />$226,809 Ivy Creek <br />Natural Area <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Supporting National <br />Volunteer Week <br /> <br />Ordinance re: <br />Authorizing sale <br />of property on <br />Brown Street <br /> (2nd reading) <br /> <br />Ordinance re: <br />Vacating portion <br />of right-of-way <br />on East Jefferson <br />Street <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Commending U.Va. <br />Cavaliers for <br />support of City <br />Therapeutic <br />Recreation Program <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms, Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the following <br />appropriation was offered and carried over to the next meeting <br /> <br />for consideration: <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the. City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, that the additional sum of $226,809 is hereby appropmiated <br />from the unappropriated balance of the Capital Projects Fund to <br />expenditure account 05~00950 to be used in conjunction with the <br />$37,600 previously appropriated to such account and funds appropriated <br />by the County .of Albemarle for land acquisition and related costs <br />of the Ivy Creek Natural Area expansion project. <br /> Such expenditure shall be offset by reimbursements to the <br />Capital ProjeCts Fund of a donation of $78,954 from the Nature <br />Conservancy and $123,375 from HCRS Grant #51-00155 to be received <br />from the Virginia Co~n~niasion on Outdoor Recreation, resulting in <br />a net additional City cost of $22,580, <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Ms. Gleason, Council <br /> <br />adopted the following resolution unanimously: <br /> WHEREAS volunteering of one's time, talents and resources <br />has been an &ntegral part of our American heritage since the <br />early days of our nation; and <br /> WHEREAS it is essential that we continue this tradition Of <br />giving and sharing in order that we can preserve and continue <br />to improve' the quality of life for all citizens in our <br />communities; and <br /> WHEREAS anyone, regardless of circumstances or station, or <br />factors of race, age, sex, color or creed, can participate <br />in volunteer service to neighbors and community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS our nation is experiencing a time df diminishing <br />natural and technological resources and a time when our people <br />have reached a realization that government cannot or should not <br />provide every service necessary to build a better environment; <br />and <br /> WHEREAS each year a special Week is designated in our nation <br /> for the dual purpose of recognizing thosewho gzve of themselves <br /> and of encouraging all citizens to become involved; new, therefore, <br /> be it <br /> RESOLVED jointly by the Council of~the City of Charlottesville, <br /> Virginia, and the Board of Supervisors of the County of Albemarle, <br /> Virginia, that the week of April 27 through May 3, 1981, is <br /> recognized as NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK in the City of Charlottesville <br /> and the County of Albemarle in honor of our area's selfless <br /> volunteers who truly give a helping heart and we urge all of our <br /> area's citizens to help renew and sustain the-spirit and vitality <br /> of our nation by committing a portion of their time to addressing <br /> the needs of our communities through voluntary action. <br /> <br />The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SALE <br /> <br />OF CITY PROPERTY ON BROWN STREET" which was offered at the meeting <br /> <br />of April 6 was adopted by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. <br /> <br />Buck, Mr. Conover, Ms. Gleason, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. <br /> On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Ms. Gleason, an <br /> <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND DISCONTINUING <br /> <br />A PORTION OF EAST JEFFERSON STREET" was offered and carried over <br /> <br />to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Conover, Council <br /> <br />unanimously adopted the following resolution: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the University of Virginia Cavalier basketball <br />tes~ will support the Charlottesville Therapeutic Recreation <br />Program by competing in a wheelchair basketball game against <br />the Charlottesville Cardinals on April 23, 198.1; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the players of the University of Virginia Cavalier <br />basketball team have demonstrated with their will, their spirit, <br />their hearts and their utmost integrity a sincere commitment <br />to the full participation of disabled persons in recreational <br />and sports activities; and <br /> <br /> <br />
